Tank Installation Problem
Tank problem.jpg
After jacking the fuel tank into position it was noticed that the front mounting support on the passenger side was touching the side of the tank. That caused the rear mounting support on the passenger side to touch the tank also. There is no clearance left to move the tank for or aft. Using my square on the cross member shows that the support is bent aft at least 1/4 in. off of true. Looks like the only way to recon this situation is to pull the front mount forward 1/4". I am afraid the pulling the support forward may crack the weld, so I am thinking of using a torch to heat up the mounting support to move it forward. I cringe at the thought of putting a torch on that mounting support but don't see any other possibility. Maybe I am not the first one to have this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Thanks

You need to bend the flange on the tank flat. That should fix your issue.

BTW, the front (dangling) square tubes are designed to allow the tank to move forward in the event of a rear-end impact.

thank you, we know we need to bend the flange. We will go ahead and bend it but dont think that will fix this issue. Thanks

you can try to "massage" the tubes a bit without worrying too much about the welds. the front "outriggers" are notorious for being out of place and need to be whacked a bit w/ a 2x4.
