I have a 4.6l thinking of swapping it for a 289/302/351 Will I need new headers, or will the 4.6l work on one of the 3 listed?

You'll need headers. Due to both head/port locations and port configurations. You'll even need different headers between the 289/302 and then the 351.
Might also need motor mounts, bell housing, maybe flywheel, clutch disk and pressure plate. There are probably other incompatibilities.

okay thanks, I would be changing the trans as well. from what I have been told the 4.6 modular transmission won't work with anything else

With a 289/302 or 351 no, but can work with a Coyote. I had the 4.6L DOHC engine with Tremec 3650 and the 3650 will bolt up to the Coyote as it is another member of the modular family. The problem with the 3650 is that the bellhousing is part of the transmission case so no adaptability to other engines.
