Two roll bars in a 289?

Is it possible to get a passenger side roll bar on the 289 car?

Would factory five put the holes in the body for the second hoop on a 289?

    Thanks!

I would expect so. I believe that the mounts are in place, if not it shouldn't be that hard to add the three mounts.
Not sure if FFR would add the body holes.

Yes, the mounts are on the frame as it’s the same as the MK4/427. There was a 289 at the FFR open house last year with both roll bars. I would reach out to FFR but don’t see why they wouldn’t at least mark the locations for you.

Great thanks I'll give them a shout. Did the 289 have bars like the 427 car? I'd like to install 2 "289" style roll bars but I'm guessing they'd both have that piece sticking out for the cross bar? I'd like to get 2 without this part.

The 289 cars have the single driver hoop with the forward petty bar. This is one of main differences that makes them unique to the 427 car. You could purchase the 427 roll bars from FFR or Breeze Automotive if you want to go that route. If you don’t mind me asking, what not just build a 427 with dual roll bars?

If you intend to use the 427 style roll bars I think you may find that the 289's fuel filler location will fall inside of the passenger bar hoop and under the angled rear leg making fueling clumsy at best.

I was hoping to use a 289 style roll bar on both sides. I just preferred the look of the 289 car with the smaller side pipes. I may have to consider the 427 car if it’s just not possible.

I know that the look that I went with is either hated or not, but I promised the wife that I would have protection on the PS, so I went with a full width bar with the forward petty bar located to look similar. Bought the full width bar from Frank at I.E.427. It even came with LED third brake lights for additional safety. I'll try to find a picture that shows the bar better than my avatar.

Thanks for the reply and pics! Does he sell other roll bars for these cars as well?

You'd have to check with him, but I seem to remember that he had single roll bars that could also have the led brake lights. Also, I got the piece that connects the petty bar to the roll bar separate, and had it welded here once I got the angle figured out. I also bought the petty bar locally to save on shipping. I think I bought a 4 foot piece and it worked out perfectly. As a note, I also did mine in 2 inch tubing. He's i.e.427 on the forum.
