Wiper Motor Mount
About to mount my wiper motor. Seems straight forward but the firewall is thin and with the weight of the motor it seems like it will not be very sturdy once mounted. I was thinking about adding an aluminum plate to screw through on the back of the firewall to add rigidity. Any suggestions I’m not thinking of? Something I’m missing here?

The motor isn't creating much stress from operation. I mounted mine with nothing more than the firewall aluminum and some washers on both sides.

I made some support brackets out of 1/8" aluminum right angle I got from Home Depot. I used the brackets because I added some spacers to the wiper motor to get better alignment with the cable drive and wiper transmissions. I don't think I would have bothered with the brackets if I mounted the motor directly to the firewall. I did need to trim down the upper bracket (not pictured) to allow the bulb seal to properly seat on the top of the firewall. Not that this makes a difference, but I used the Specialty Power Windows wiper kit.

I mounted mine so that the lower bolt goes through the 3/4" frame tube. The upper bolt (on the right side viewed from the engine bay) just goes through the thin firewall aluminum. I did use a large washer on the inside of the firewall to spread the load.

I just riveted a piece of aluminum on the back side of the dash panel to stiffen it up. It worked quite well. I think the thicker dash panel would not need any stiffening.

I used this bracket from McMaster (3176T66), which I think gives a solider mount and better look, particularly if you paint the motor housing and U bolt black. I did put an aluminum backing plate behind the firewall. But Papa's right, there's not much stress that's going to be placed on the panel by the static or dynamic forces at work here.

The thicker aluminum of ffmetal.com's firewall forward kit provides plenty of support.
I WISH I'd used riv-nuts to receive the mounting bolts. If I ever have to change the motor, it'll be a two person job with through-bolts.

Got mine installed thanks for the advice excellent as always. The aluminum plate makes it very strong. Have not run it yet obviously but it’s solid. Posting couple pics in case others find this thread and think it’s helpful.
