    Solar Eclipse

    Hey Y'All,

I'm getting ready to view the total solar eclipse...

Here's my attempt to show a partial using the special disposable glasses on my camera phone...more to come

Looked great with the naked eye...couldn't get my phone camera to do it justice. Anyone else have better luck?

Coverage was ~80-90% here in NC. Was able to get a great view through youtube for Dallas. They had ~4 minutes of darkness and it was pretty amazing to see.

We only had a ~50% eclipse in California, but I got a look at it through my welding hood. Pretty cool.

We had 94% here in Chicagoland. Had the same experience/luck with the iPhone photo that Craig had. I was surprised it didn't get darker, but it was still very impressive. The dog didn't find it that interesting, though.

This was the best I could do with the automatic settings on my iPhone camera. We drove about half a hour to Wooster Ohio to get into the path of totality. It was really a lot darker. The sun was black with just the corona around the edges of the moon and a solar flare at 7 o'clock. I got to share this with my wife and daughter's family and it was awesome!

A great day and everyone was prepared.

I came out to my parent's place in AR from central OK. I took a picture every 30 seconds with my 10" Newtonian to produce a time-lapse video, later. I also took some cellphone pics during totality.

These are the cellphone pics I took during totality. The brighter one was a longer exposure to pickup Venus and Jupiter which were visible to the naked eye.

These three are when the moon occluded the prominent sunspot on the surface of the sun.

    My Type 65 Coupe: Ordered May 27, 2021. Arrived November 19, 2021.
I would like to treat my gas pedal as a binary operator. It would be nice to get the cooperation of everyone in front of me.
