    Cable shifter cable routing, 2024 Edition

    Okay I have read some of the older posts on this subject and it seems that the preferred routing for the Brandwood shifter cables has changed over time. What is everybody's preferred routing for both cables?

    I have Kooks exhaust, a g50, and CTS-V alternator. Cables are fire sleeved.

    The large cable I am thinking next to the alternator, then up above the header next to the valve covers and then between the axle and exhaust to the transmission bracket.

    Lower cable I am thinking along the lower most frame, coming out behind the rear control arm and then up to the transmission bracket.

    Thoughts?

    I route both cables together from the shifter, along the LH side of the oil pan....keeping them as close to the oil pan as you can get to get them as far away from the exhaust as you can. Under the axle, I route the large cable up around the back of the axle shaft, using the bolts on the transaxle side plate to clamp the cable to the transaxle....and then just up and to the bracket. The smaller cable continues straight back, then loops out into the "cavity" behind the rear wheel well aluminum and does a 180 back to the bracket.

    1. You want to keep the radius of the bends as large as possible.
    2. You want to keep the cables as far from the exhaust as possible.
    3. You don't want to use cable ties or clamps that are so tight they are "squeezing" the outer casing of the cables......because if the cable gets hot in that area enough to soften the sleeve material, the clamp or zip tie will actually shrink the sleeve down in that area and lock it solid to the cable and the cable will be completely seized up.

    Shane, isn't that a pretty severe bend having to come up after the axle to meet the bracket?

    I've set up dozens of cars like that without any problems. You don't want to make it into an S shape and you want to keep the bend radius as big as possible......so if there's too much cable there and it seems like it's forcing the cable into an S shape, then put that excess cable into the area below the crank pulley at the front of the engine with a gentle bend there.

    Here's my cable routing at the back end, after fixing all the bracket issues. Still have to figure out what to do with the extra main cable at the front, but most likely will tuck it over o the pass side of the tunnel.
