    Twin turbos hot side ready to go to the welder

    just a few photos updating the work I have been getting done on the twin turbo install. Let me know what you think and if you see anything that may become an issue for me. Over all i am super happy with the way its turning out and the welder has the parts now. I did not have a welder at home so I used red tape to hold the parts in place.     Oh i forgot to mention I am not using the O2 bungs, i will be leaving those pluged or might have the welder fill the spot. i have a Holley termiator x and will have a bung added for it on the passenger side before the collector going into the side pipe at the correct angle for the wideband O2.IMG_20240724_223106.jpg

    What are you thinking your going to be putting down at the wheel? I would like to know more about your build. I think what you have so far is pretty sick.

    Going to be a lot of heat in the engine bay. I would over insulate the cockpit. I love unique builds

    Thanks, As for power a single turbo on a stock 302 can make 475+ based on what I have read. I have upgraded a few things for the boost so with the twins I am targeting 400 to 425 whp (I don't plan to push big boost). I upgraded the internal bolts to ARP after having the motor worked so i could rebuild it but i am using stock pistons and rods over sized gap on the rings, a E303 cam, upgraded fuel pump and injectors the machine shop also oversized the valves and upgraded the valve springs when it was in. I plan to Cerakote all the hotside turbo plumbing which should lower the temp coming off the parts by up to 65% if there data is correct. I am inheriting some Mustangs from my dad so I wanted to do something different with this build. I know its not everyone's cup of tea but at least its not an LS or a K series IMO.

    I would think the stock GT cam would be better for forced induction, less overlap, duration, etc.
    I would also leave the O2 bungs in place, just plug them. Never can tell when plans or needs will change.
    If you are through with the engine, stock pistons?, I don't feel good about this.
    Hopefully mild pressure, good tune and gas, things will be OK.
    Good luck with your project. Keep posting, cannot wait to see it fired up.

    Seems like a lot of work for 425hp. I had that + from a mild 408NA engine.

    I see your point, lol, I already had the 1989 mustang the motor trans and rear end came out of for the project. I did not have a huge budget for this so had to map out specific path to make this happen. If i find i want more power i could always do a full race alum block heads forged crank, billet rods and custom pistons and still turbo it and at that point turn the wick up as much as any sane person wants, 1000+ hp is possible. After watching videos of other cars with 400+ hp i am sure it will be plenty and give me the enjoyment and smile i am looking for.

    Doing it this way I have not spent half of what a built motor would have run me and the pssht sound when I shift is gonna trip people out. I have done a bunch of things for this build people will say i would never do that. It for sure is the wrong thing for the right reason and at the end of the day I am the only person impacted good or bad.

    The cam was one my dad had sitting on the shelf for a diffent car and it was never used. The "interwebs" research i did actully shows the E303 cam is decent for forced induction builds, lots of people over on www.turbomustangs.com use them and since it was "free to me" it was the best cam for my build.

    I would put bungs in.
    Make sure you keep heat away from the brake lines.
    I am a little nervous for your pistons. But you already own them.

    I read back through this and realized my post might be a little on the snarky side. I didn't mean it that way at all. Over the years in cars, houses, guns, I have done similar to you. Hey, I have this, I can get that free or near free, this may not make sense from a clean sheet point of view, but I can piece it together, learn stuff along the way, and end up w/ more than I had to start with for less $ than other choices. Keep up the great work, and keep providing updates so we can enjoy following along.

    Cool build. Build what you want. Like others, I'd watch your pistons. I have built multiple boosted engines over the year. Watch the spool hitting exiting a corner. A sudden surge could make the back kick out. That said I have a couple of questions. 1) what are you planning for an intercooler? I've used both a Snow Performance water /Methanol chemical intercooler. The methanol will raise your obtain and may help protect the pistons. On my current build I use a treadstone intercooler. 2.) Why did you pick your turbo location to be up front vs something attached to the 4 Into 4 headers after the collector. In no way am i trying to be critical. Just curious about your design. I've drawn it up both ways and was curious. Thanks for sharing.

    I hope i did not come off defensive, as i reread what i have been typing I can see how it could be viewed that way. Thank you for the kind words.

    I have Simi-ridged self imposed budget, with that said I have spent money on things that are differently for the better blow money on things that are questionable and dumb crap like why turbo a car that would still have been fun and enjoyable with 225 hp...

    This is 100% my project. Dad and I are enjoying building it together, we don't always see eye to eye on things I am doing with the build either, although I think I am winning him over to the turbo side (he really wanted me to supercharge it).

    1) I have owned a few turbo cars but never built one which is some of the appeal for this build to me. I have an air to air intercooler that came as part of this "ebay" turbo kit that was ordered before I even ordered the cobra from FFR. i an gonna modify the crap out of it to fit, The intercooler and the other parts were all made to fit the 89 Fox body I had. After getting the motor to the machine shop I just could not get excited to build the stang which i was gonna build to be a 1/4 mile track only car. I have always loved the cobras and sitting at my desk, tequila in hand, started resarching Cobra kits... I plan to also tune to run on e85 for track days. I have a friend who has a single turbo on a 91 Mustang GT, motor is bone stock running 10 pounds of boost. Hedoesnt beat on the thing and has never Dynoed it that I know of but with the stock internals including pistons he is pretty happy with the results. Holley Terminator x and proper tuning should make it a bit safer, fingers crossed.

    2) The way the headers fit and the shape of the sides of the engine bay and the fact it is a twin set up it would have been very tight to mount up on the top of the headers, when we started playing with placement infront of the engine it just seems like a way to fill the empty void that there is in other 302 builds inbetween the rad and belt drive. I think it will look great at a show with the hood off/up and will likely be the only one that looks like this.

    Over the last four or five days I've spent a lot of time mocking up the charge pipes to go to the intercooler and looking at how the intercooler will have to be modified to fit here's some photos.     I love boost! But I'm curious why you went with a twin turbo setup if your goals are only 425hp? I figure you could smash that with a GT45 at around 10 psi. And that turbo is small enough you won't have hardly any lag. Less complicated plumbing too.

    I had already ordered and received the kit before my plans changed from building a track mustang that i was gonna have a full race engine built with that plan i got a twin kit, non returnable, and then the engine money went to buy the FFR Roadster kit instead.
