What did you do on your roadster today?

Came across a like-minded cruiser with car trouble, so pulled over and hung out until his tow arrived. Lost count of all the honks and thumbs-ups we received.

Eliminated the old donor multi-function switch with a couple new switches that are easier to get to.

I'm looking to do this exact thing for my roadster, the stock FFR headlights are not good. But when I look for the Hella Vision Plus 7" Conversion Headlights on say Summit Racing, there are multiple PNs that I cannot tell the difference between.

Is this one the correct one?

I upgraded to LED headlights today.

The Hella Vision Plus 7" H4 Conversion Headlight is a little flatter than the original sealed bulb and comes with a halogen bulb.

I replaced the Hella halogen bulbs with LED bulbs that I saw Fman use in his build. The bulbs have built-in fans and drivers. (Thanks Fman)

The LED bulbs are the same size as the halogen bulbs that came with the Hellas.

While the halogens weren't bad, the LEDs were brighter. Both the halogens and LEDs were superior to the sealed bulbs that came with the F5 kit. Everything was a direct fit with no modifications needed. Took less than an hour to do.

Did nothing but wipe the dust off and taking a ride today in southern Pa. Other than a few issues early on, that's all I have to do is wipe off the dust and ride. It's been done for three years and has 12k miles on it. Best, most fun vehicle I've ever owned. I'm glad I ordered the fun package.

Only negative is shoulder belt alignment. Would like to have the come straight out from the rear bulkhead & through the seat.

No problem a number of the guys here helped me find these seats. Nice to be able to pass on the info. What's really good about them is they fit the cockpit with no work. Also they are fully upholstered front & rear.

I'm trying to figure that out! It says the gross weight was 2660 but when I look closer the certificate shows 2480 on the rear axle and 180 on the front axle. I had a friend of mine take it there since he has a nice truck and enclosed car hauler and I'm pretty sure he was standing on the front scale. He happens to weigh about 180 lol

So I'm saying 2480lbs with half a tank of gas.

Right after I got on the road over 10 years ago, I kissed an unpainted speed bump with my oil drain plug. It didn't cause any problems, so I let it ride. Last year after my annual oil change, it started weeping. This year, the weep turned into a stream, so off with the old, in with the new. I used a Fel-Pro one piece gasket. Those plastic alignment pins are genius.

At least there were no shiny things in the bottom of the pan.

Removed my failed sniper pressure regulator and installed an adjustable external one. Also replaced the oil temperature gauge with a fuel pressure gauge, so now I can monitor it in the future..

Now that we're legal we put some more miles on it today although somewhat limited by the temperature here in Texas in August. But, a good chance to test the cooling system and happy to report it never got above 190. Oil pressure was always good, tach spot on, GPS speedo spot on, and the alternator is doing it's thing. Steering is very tight, takes a little getting used to compared to my 100K Tacoma, but it tracks nice and true going down the road.

We've been doing quite a bit of driving around the neighborhood and today was the first time out legal with plates. Barely a half mile from the house we run into a policeman coming out of a side street. He just sat there watching us go by and then went the other way. Ha!

Yeah my 100k Taco wiggles a bit and also I warp rotors like crazy. But I have done nothing but abuse it and with regular maint. so far so good.

As for what I did today on the Roadster - Married the Engine and Transmission, made some transmission spacers, broke a couple of banjo parts, fixed a zerk fitting, powder coated 1 of the headlight trim rings, powder coated the dead pedal, and fixed the sound deadening/heat shielding in the drivers footbox. Pretty good day on the Roadster.

Saturday, took the car to its first car show in gel coat ... didn't matter, all eyes on the roadster when I drove in and plenty of folks ready to chat once I got out. The kind of friendly neighborhood thing where plenty of non-owners want to talk ... and lean on the windshield, and try to open the doors. No problem, just a little education involved. And lots of good stories to swap. Met my son there, along with his good friend Shelby ... yep, her Dad's a car guy, and had to take in the show via Facetime.

Handed my son the keys and let him get behind the wheel for the first time. He did fine and had a blast. I think his car has a dent in the floor from him operating his own clutch right after driving the roadster.

Sunday, was driving on the freeway and heard / felt my first detonation through all of the 15+ Sniper tune revisions I've done. Not my best moment. Checked the handheld ... O2 sensor says 35.6 AFR, clearly I have a bad O2 sensor. So detonation makes sense, air / fuel mix was likely far richer than the AFR table called for, and therefore burning faster.

Ordered a new O2 Bosch 17025 sensor from EFI System Pro. I likely heat-shocked the sensor with moisture in the pipe during warmup (NOT from orientation of the bung placement), or from running rich during initial tuning. Just to be safe, ordered an HBX-1 Bung Extender from Innovate Motorsports to pull the sensor back from the direct exhaust stream.

Back up and running next week, and happy to run open loop until then with a fairly refined fuel table already in place.

Installed a power steering cooler. Used 1 3/4" angle aluminum to span the space between the steering rack mounting tabs and mounted a 12" Derale fluid cooler to it. It's a great location as it's tucked up so not to be in harms way from road debris but also behind the radiator fan so it gets a lot of airflow.

Painted the brackets on my custom hydraulic clutch master cylinder actuator. SN95 pedal box with Wilwood master cylinder. I will write a post on the whole setup soon. IMG_3598.jpg

So my oldest son and I took it to a car show in all it's gel coat and parting lines glory. We are part of the Mile High Cobra Club and went in as a small group. Despite the upper 90 degree temperatures we had a good time. Lots of questions about the car. Only bad thing is the windshield in the upper drivers side cracked. Just sitting there. The start of the crack does not align with any screws or any defects I can visibly see. So I will order a new one from FFR and check the mounting frame to make sure there's no sharp spots or defects that will cause another one to crack.

out of curiosity, I downloaded a sound level app for the phone. sitting in the backyard it registered about 40db, which is in line with what a neighborhood would typically be. I recognize it is not a calibrated instrument, but it appears to report reasonable sound levels. Anyway, the idle sound level inside the car fluctuated between 69-72 db, which is a bit lower than GasN indicates for their touring pipes (which is what I have). I also have thick sound deadening butyl all over everything. Now I want to use the same app in other cars to see the relative difference, as that will be more meaningful than the absolute (uncalibrated) reading.
