Coupe stripe layout
Is there a guide to laying out the stripes on the coupe?
I see that the roadster usually has 7" with 1" gap... some are tapered, some straight.
I really like the stripes on the display coupe and was wondering if the dimensions are anywhere to be found?

Post #10 has the dimensions I used on my Gen 2 Type 65. I can try to find some better pictures if that would help.

Jacob,
Did you use a Round Paint Mask to lay out the hood Roundel?
-
I'm sorry for the slow response; the last few days have been nonstop motion.
I didn't use a commercial product for the roundel. I made a 19.5" circle out of heavy paper and went around it with 1/4" plastic stripe tape, which gave me 20." From there I filled in the roundel with masking paper and masking tape. If I had known of a commercial product to make the roundel, I would have used it. Taping the roundel was tedious and time-consuming. Anything to make the process faster and easier would have been welcomed.
To make the paper circle I took a piece of flat aluminum and drilled two holes in it 9 3/4" apart. Put it on the paper with an awl in one hole and a pencil in the other, and spin it around to make a big circle.

No worries.
What did you use as a distance between the stripes and the roundel?
-
That distance is 1/4." I ran a second circle of 1/4" plastic stripe tape (my term for what I think is a 3M product) around the roundel and used that second circle to set the 1/4" gap.
I'm pretty sure the distance between the stripes is 1.25," rather than the typical 1." I would measure it but the car is a long way away. I can ask someone to measure it if you want that exact dimension.

I thought that was what I read, just wanted to make sure. No worries with between the stripe measurements.
Thanks for the response.

Not a waxer
Regarding roundels/meatballs: Get with your local sign shop and have them make your circles with their CNC vinyl cutter using masking vinyl. The masking vinyl is more flexible and has a different adhesive which will easily to lift off but still give a sharp, clean edge.
Division between the roundel and stripe is 1/4" on this one.
Cheers,
Jeff
