    AN hose end fitting questions (for power steering)

    I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer for this. I'm at the point where I'm ready to start building up custom power steering hoses but have some questions about the AN fittings I need. I need to make my own hoses because in my setup I've got a Coyote KRC PS setup + Forte Hydroboost + FFR PS rack + oil cooler. For those interested, there's a diagram of how I plan to connect everything below. There are A LOT of different fittings needed. I'll be using high pressure rated PTFE hose w/ braided stainless steel mesh and I know the AN fittings on the ends of the hoses need to be made specifically for PTFE hoses.

    Questions:
    1. On the high pressure hoses, can I use the standard aluminum AN hose end fittings or do they need to be steel fittings with higher pressure rating? I've seen some Russell fittings that are made specifically for their high pressure PowerFlex series hoses (2500psi) and they are steel alloy instead of aluminum. I prefer the aesthetic of the blue/red aluminum fittings but wasn't sure if those can handle the high pressure - I don't want to have a fitting blow out.
    2. On the PS rack connections, is there a standard recommended fitting angle (45°? 150°? 180°?) that work well for the high & low ports? The high pressure port will come from my hydroboost on the DS footbox, and the low pressure port will go to my Y-adapter where it will join with the hydroboost return before routing over to the oil cooler inlet.



    For anything on the low pressure side, unless someone states otherwise I'll assume the aluminum PTFE hose end fittings are fine as I see them frequently used on the oil cooler connections.

    For my PS builds, I've always purchased the hose and SS fittings from Mark at Breeze. They are Aeroquip brand, which in my experience is very high quality. Many, including me, recommend buying the same brand hose and fittings. He has a kit that's specifically for the Coyote/KRC setup. But you would obviously need more to include the hydroboost. I use 90 degree fittings out of the rack. He also has the right adapter fittings that go into the rack.

    Thanks Paul - I did see the kit from Breeze (and understand he can put together a custom setup for me also to include the HB parts). I've got the 6AN fittings for the rack already (came with my kit). I mainly wanted to know about aluminum vs. steel fittings for the high pressure side. I will reach out to Mark Reynolds and see if he knows (and if his fittings are steel or aluminum). I really like the look of the anodized blue/red fittings but wasn't sure if those can be used on the high pressure side.

    I'm partial to Earl's hose and fittings, consistently high quality and never had an issue with it. For the PS hoses you definitely want Teflon lined hoses and steel fittings. https://www.holley.com/brands/earls/...nd_speed-flex/

    I’m well aware of that. But that’s what most of the ptfe hoses are designed to for power steering applications. And I have no idea what the working pressure is coming out of the KRC pump or hydroboost.

    never got an answer from the forum or the Facebook group (Factory Five Builder) about which material/style is appropriate for power steering but I do see on Summit's website that there are some Q&A on the Summit brand aluminum fittings and they say specifically NOT to use the aluminum fittings on high pressure applications >500psi. So I plan to use steel fittings for the high pressure lines, and probably aluminum fittings for the low pressure lines.

    I'd steer clear of aluminum for PS or any high pressure stuff. I also use Aeroquip fittings and PTFE hose which can be reused, just get extra hose sleeves. Remember that PS PTFE hose is not the same size as regular hose. If you do it, stay with one brand across the board.
