The 1250S3 gasket seems awfully small for the intake/head combo. I would think a 1262S3 would be more compatible.

Hi Gordon, I called AFR and they said either gasket would work. The 1250 seemed to align fine with the head intake ports.

A little update on the china wall oil leak... I ended up borescoping under the water neck to see where the gasket sealer was not fully seated across the china wall. There was a tiny 1/16" gap where the oil was coming through. Cleaned the area off with some parts cleaner and ran a new bead under the water neck area. After another test drive it is now leak free. I will probably replace it again this winter when I am not driving the car much but it will get me through the nice fall weather driving rapidly approaching here in Nor Cal.

I am using Permatex Ultra Black, this is what my engine builder recommended. Assuming this is adequate for this task?
Don't let it set for an hour, just about 5-10min and then install the manifold and torque it down. Then walk away for the day (24hrs) and let it set. You can then recheck the torque and finish buttoning up everything. Also, make sure the surfaces are CLEAN on both block and manifold before putting the silicone down. Permatex UB is good stuff.

FWIW - here are the actual application instructions from Permatex for ultra black. Very similar to Ultra Copper that I used as exhaust flange gaskets. They do not recommend any setup time before assembly. Parts should be assembled immediately, but tightened only to the point where it starts to seep out the sides. Then let set for two hours, finger tighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn and let cure for 24 hours.

At one point I did the same. Quite a few squirts of brake cleaner followed by drying w/ compressed air. Then a smear of ultra grey. That worked for over a year until I had a different reason to take off the intake.
