    Intake Manifold Advice

Really like the “symmetrical look” of the LS intake manifold but SBF doesn’t seem to have a lot of current options
Has anyone tried running one of these Holley 300-272 intake manifolds on the 302-347 setups of the mk4 yet?
Wondering if the height is there?
    Troubles with tuning?

I had that Holley EFI manifold for my 427W. Very cool! Looked great on the engine.

It would fit in my installation, but my engine might be a bit lower than standard for a Mk4 due to non-standard engine mounts. Holley has a spec page with dimensions. From the china wall it's a bit lower than a carb and air cleaner.

The downside as I saw it was cost. Adding up a capable ECU, distributor, throttle body, injectors along with the installation components and then tuning added in it became prohibitive at about $6,500. When my tuner friend offered that he was sure he could make it run smoother than my carb but not necessarily make more power it ceased to make any sense. I sold the manifold.

What's wrong with one of the carb based EFI capable manifolds? Edelbrock has a good selection.

    Thanks for the feedback,
I just went out to measure. It’ll fit in mine as well.
I’m close to a decision on my motor rebuild/swap.
I really like (prefer) the look of the LS manifold. The “carb” look to me is over played and I just think for me, time for something different (modern touch).
In my eye it has better symmetry and just all around nicer appearance than anything else I’ve yet found. I cannot bring myself to put an LS into my car however prefer the look and bang for buck that the LS provides.
I can get a nice LS locally “dirt cheap” compared to a SBF with matched power.
Guess it’s something I didn’t have to appreciate until owning my first performance “Ford”.
    Historically a GM/Chev guy.
Pretty sure this’ll be the way I go after the quotes (in CAD) I’ve been seeing for crate builds that are built with a “carb” style EFI setup.

This manifold came out for the sbf after I finished my car. I'm running the 8.2 deck, but was worried that with the addition of a throttle body, that it wouldn't fit under the hood. I already use a cam plug and run coil on plug. Thought I'd get better numbers too. Jim 1885 said it fit on his car with the 9.5 deck 351 block? Gives me something to think about.

Yes from what I can tell it’ll fit.
I see you’re running a 347 with some impressive numbers.

Looks like you have a very similar setup which I am hoping for.
Would you mind if I PM you?

"however prefer the look and bang for buck that the LS provides."

For this same reason, I decided to go with the LS in mine. I know it goes against the grain but the LS has a lot going for it.

I almost went this way as well. It is a great looking setup. But I opted for the Holley Sniper 2 with Hyperspark Distributor, Coil and Ignition. Just plug and play. Even the distributor sets itself. The setup wizard makes the tuning easy as well.

With the Edelbrock Air Gap RPM manifold I was able to run all the wires through the gap for a clean look

All aluminum LS3 with Holley Terminator X Max ECU running DBW throttle body. Bare engine weight just a hair over 400 pounds. I discussed the application with some knowledgeable folks. Their advice was to keep the factory intake if running under 600HP. Anything else would be a disappointment.
Engine fits really nice, lots of clearance for installation and exhaust. Chevrolet Performance crate engine with GM "Hot Cam". Comes with a warranty.

On the driver's side, below the power steering pump.

Here's an older pic from the test fit install.

I used the ICT Billet kit, #551669-2.
