Windshield help - MK4
I have cut the bottoms off the windshield & can get it to either the correct measurements on the passenger side or the drivers side & get the 27" measurement, but can't get the gasket to seal on both sides at once.
The windshield seems to be bottoming out on the center cowl of the body.
There isn't any more gasket to compress in the center.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong or missing
Any & all help would be greatly appreciated.

What did you cut, pics?
I just finished my windshield install and didn't cut anything.

Somewhat normal. The gasket will conform over time. Just make sure there is nothing holding the body up in the center at the top of the firewall.

I used a little double sided foam tape about 6 inches in from the windshield post on both sides to hold the gasket down. Placed it about 1/4 inch back from the leading edge of the gasket. You can’t see it and as a side benefit, it prevents water flowing through that area when driving in the rain.

Kevin, sounds like you need to till the windshield back just a little. If it's too straight up & down it hits the middle of the body first.

I removed about 1 1/2" from the sidebars.
Tried to upload a pic, but don't seem to be able to attach it.
J.Kleiner recommended 13" on both side & i have taken off about 1 1/2" from the supports that mount to the frame.

I have less than a 50 deg angle on the windshield now. Actually a little more than the recommended 53 deg.
Have left it sit overnight in hopes the gasket would relax a little. But no such luck.
Shortened the mounts by 1 1/2", almost touched the passenger foot box & dropped below the 3/4 tubing by 1/2". To close the the fuse panel for my likes.

You can cut a little more, I think I cut 2".

I didn't have to cut mine as well, so I'd recommend measuring before you start cutting. I went into the project thinking that I would need to cut about 2" off but it turned out that it was not necessary.

I think the newer posts may require less cutting than older ones. I used a yard stick to measure the distance between the body and the top of the footbox to determine how much needed to be cut.

I have both post cut just a little, they don't touch the foot box or the frame on the drivers side so I think I'm good there.
I can get the gasket to almost seal, but when I do, the windshield can't get the 27" measurement on both side at the same time.
I've already opened the body up.
Has anyone had to open the holes both forward on one side & back on the other to get the windshield to fit with the correct spacing?
If I do the cover plates won't cover the opening.

Yes. Pretty much always have to make the holes bigger so that it fits and then close them up so that the trim covers.
