All,
We are close to priming the car and we are adding the hood scoop...
I run a 302 engine and the car does not overheat...
Is the hole in the hood even necessary for the hood scoop?
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Wow really? How do you think it will look with out the opening

Not required but something that can make or break the "look"
Have had more than a few people at C&C peaking in the scoop to see what's inside. Some even taking pictures of the opening. Asked one why & he said "saw the COYOTE plate & wanted to see if was real". Opened the hood & he said he did not believe one would ever fit in such a small car.

I love the smell of 100 octane in the morning.

No, it’s not required. In fact I did a Coyote powered car a couple of years ago and installed the scoop for purely cosmetic reasons but didn’t cut the hole. Owner figured all it would do is let water in when it rained and I had to agree with him.

Jeff, I've driven in a lot of rain, never been an issue.

Maybe install a mesh of some sort if the look bothers you? Not sure if that would look better or worse.
My street build with a 302 runs just fine without a scoop.

I recently had a misfire in our MKII, It turned out be 4 corroded spark plug wires at the distributor, We have been caught in a few rain storms in the past 2 years , So I made a umbrella for the distributor , Ed
IMO, Fake hood scoops are the worse. I’ve spent many an hour making them functional on old 60’s muscle cars. If you don’t want to cut the hood, don’t put it on. On the Cobra, the hood scoop has the added benefit of forcing cold air into the engine compartment which keeps the foot boxes cooler. With the additional heat shields, I’ve never had a issue with uncomfortable foot box heating.

Either go without, or make it functional. Just my opinion.
I haven't seen the term RICEr thrown around for a few years.
One thing. It would not be easy to keep it clean in there.
