    Homebrew wiring harness

    Has anyone made their own wiring harnesses?

    I come from an aviation maintenance background and I was an electrician for a decade or so, wiring doesn’t intimidate me.

    It seems, reading through build threads, that the supplied wiring harnesses are generic and require some disassembly and splicing, I HATE unnecessary splices, simply adds another mode of failure.

    It looks like the supplied fuse-block is only eleven circuits with a few relays and such, I am seriously considering just buying some Tefzel wiring and doing it myself.

    I appreciate all pros and cons.

    I think most stick with the RF harness as it comes with the kit and is convenient. Painless and others make fuse blocks and provide wiring to build your own exactly how you want. It gets a little more complicated if you go with an injected powerplant. All really just preference.

    Used a coachcontrols unit for mine. Has a main fuse board with 23 different circuits. All the wiring is custom from there. Very reasonable for what it is and comes with more wiring than you could need.

    I am building a '33 Hot Rod as a daily driver and wanted more circuits than those in the FFR supplied fuse block. I used the Highway 22 wiring kit from American Autowire. As the name implies, 22 circuits with a variety of fuses / relays, more color coded wire than needed, and a generic schematic that was very helpful. FWIW, I also added a supplemental fuse block in the trunk for some of the extra DD do-dads. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

    Thanks Keith, Paul’s build thread was one of the first I came across when I joined the forum, read the whole thing and plan to use it as my “how-to” manual.

    I am probably going to go with FormaCars power windows, some heated seats, AC, etc. so I will probably need more circuits also.

    Thanks for the info on the fuse blocks that you used.

    Yeah, every option sucks up more power. Power windows, heated seats, AC, audio system, power door locks, multiple USB ports, exhaust cutouts, rear parking camera, dash-cam, blind-spot warning system, Coyote ECU, and a few more I've momentarily forgotten. The only consolation is that they don't all operate at once...
