    Change seats

Anybody swapped out the seats for a more racing type seat? Looking to change mine to red, but they are really narrow - and would like a racing type high back seat.

I installed the Kirkey low back vintage racing seats (see post #5 of Greg’s 35 Hot Rod Truck). https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...-Hot-Rod-Truck If you have the original 35 Hot Rod Truck (short cab), there is not a lot of room and a high back bucket would compromise leg room significantly. If you have the new longer cab truck, then a high back racing seat might work well. I also found that width is a limiting factor. I have a very narrow (6”) center console and the 17” Kirkey seats are against the door sill and center console.

I went with theses from Carid. Sbda4 is correct, the width is the critical element. I tried to fit two other seats but could not make them work.

I have the extended cab truck and I’m currently trying to find a similar solution. I have Corbeau Evolution X seats that I used in my C5 Z06 Corvette. The C5 is notoriously narrow for seats so I thought these may fit. On the first test fit, I found that it’s very tight. With the seat laying flat on the floor, one leg side bolster is sitting against the door frame and the other side is against the trans tunnel. It appears that if I elevate the seat, I may be able to make it work and even get a slight amount of adjustment with the seat slider. Sorry, I know my feedback is not terribly helpful since they are not yet installed, but I thought I’d provide an example of a high back race seat that is probably the biggest you could make work.

As Greg mentions above, he has a great build thread where he shows how he made vintage low back race seats work with a custom tilt-forward base. He was kind enough to show me his setup and let me sit in his truck at the Donut Derelicts car meet and it was a nifty solution (like all his customizations).
