    Please help - messed up my Pro-M fuel pump hanger

    Well, I'm an idiot.


    I was tightening the AN fitting on my braided fuel line to the Pro-M fuel pump hanger feed and I spun the weld on the feed nut. I must not have been holding enough counter pressure, or maybe too much. You can't really see a crack in the weld, but the nut does slightly spin on the tube.







    I contacted Pro-M and their response was lightening quick, but not very helpful. Yep, I broke the weld. Yes, it will leak now. No, they won't recommend a fix (liability, I'm sure).



    I got some of this from Autozone:




    I've read the regular JB weld may soften with fuel.


    Do you all think this will be adequate to prevent leaking down the line, like a decade plus of use? I have the ability to replace the Pro-M hanger now while I'm still early in the build, but it's another $200 out the door.

    No. Replace the hanger.

    Edit: to expand, I would not trust any repair on that broken weld, but if there's enough room you could cut off that welded-on fitting and install a compression AN fitting. Breeze sells them. I used them on my hard SS 3/8" fuel lines and they work great.

    I suppose you could weld it and pressure test if you have that particular skill set.

    Thank you. Unfortunately, I don't weld (yet). I did recently get a MIG welder, but no way I trust myself to weld a leak proof seam on that thin tube.

    I wonder if thats brazed. Try heating it up and see if it flows out.

    I heated it up but it didn't flow. The "weld", or whatever it is, just started splintering

    Maybe I didn't heat it up enough, but I'm trying to see if I can save it so didn't want to ruin anything

    That JB stuff is a band-aid fix for a tank that has fuel sitting in it under zero pressure...it's not intended for a line that will see 50+ PSI.

    Just ordered a new hanger.

    Still don't know if this was my fault or the result of crappy welding by Pro-M.

    I hate spending another $200 on the same product I now question the quality of, but I don't see another option without spending even more.

    X2 on the Let-Lok connector JohnK recommended. Assuming the tubing is 3/8" OD and enough length, will give you a solid and permanent connection. They're rated for 1000+ PSI. I've used a bunch of them on my builds. I have one here and measured. It needs 5/8". If you have that much round tubing after the nut is cut off, would be a perfect solution.

    AN fittings need to be tight. Obviously. But don't have to crank on them maybe as hard as you did. This page from Pegasus Racing has some good recommendations. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/do...ocID=TECH00157

    Take the hanger to a local hose/hydraulic shop like Hoseman. They can either braze the fitting that is on there back on or remove it and braze on a new one. You are not going to generate enough heat with a propane or Map gas torch to liquify the brazing rod material it was installed with. Back in the day, before Chris at Mass Flo started making that dedicated hanger, we would routinely take Factory Mustang 94/95 hangers and have JIC-6 fittings brazed on so we could run AN fittings. Should cost you $30-50

    I'm definitely a noob, and probably cranked too hard. Learning lots of lessons. Unfortunately, I also must be pretty thick-skulled because I've overtightened and broken at least 4-5 items thus far.

    Next thing I'm worried about is if I overtightened one of my master cylinders, but we'll find out when I bleed the brakes.

    Oh dang - this says torque for 6AN aluminum fittings is just 150-195 INCH-lbs (~12-16 Ft-lbs).

    Oh boy, I was way over that

    I feel your pain. But, $200 is a small price to pay. Many of us have had to replace various parts that we screwed up. It's part of the build. I have my own wall of shame with parts and tools that I have messed up.

    Surprised that maybe Pro-m would warranty the hangar. I used this for my ongoing coupe build. I ran into some issues with the product, and they sent me replacement as they have a "no-questions warranty". Maybe a cheaper option for you.

    I did definitely overtighten. Live and learn.

    I ended up buying a replacement because I wanted to move on, but I kept the broken one. Optimistically, I'll get it fixed and use it on a next build

    That is patently false. Every one of the hangers I've gotten from Pro-M is a quality piece. Don't generalize and lump all these products together.

    Ok I'll rephrase; mine was cheaply tacked on and broke with very little torque. And Pro-M blew me off when I asked about it.

    Is that less false?

    I didn't use a torque wrench on these and I live and die by torque values. Just snug it up and test. If there are any leaks, snug it up some more.
