    Heat Shield Suppliers

    Hi All -

Is there a good source for Stainless Heat Shields for 4" pipes on an MK1 that are not from a scammer or crook?

    TIA

    Mark

Drummer Mike ... post #4 from GTBradley has his email.

He was in business when I ordered mine in 2022. Quality product used by many.

I got a set from him this summer, look great and cant wait to be able to install. They are 1 piece though, some like the perforated look.

I got a set of the plain steel ones from here to get black ceramic coating. They have chrome and ceramic coated options as well. I got them they were nice quality. No issue ordering even though the website comes with a warning it is not secure, when you add something to the cart it is via paypal with all paypal's features.

I'm still in the build process of my Roadster and haven't experienced getting in and out of the car yet while after a run. Can the seasoned owners explain if the exhaust shield really does make a difference in protecting your leg? I may need to consider this option mostly for the sake of my wife.....

100% absolutely make a difference. My son burnt his leg during the go kart phase and I decided I needed heat shields. Not necessarily cool to the touch, but the pipes will not burn the skin now. others use welding blankets or are super careful, but for inexperienced passengers, sidepipe shields are easy solution

Thanks JJK, will definitely check out some of these heat shields vendors for my build. Better safe than sorry. I think I read that Carol Shelby never used the doors on his cobra and just hopped out (mind you in that era they did not have the side pipes I believe).

With my drummer Mike heat shields, I can place my hands directly on the shields after a long drive with minimal discomfort.

This has been my experience as well. It is a worthwhile safety upgrade that also looks good.

I bought a set from Backdraft parts store but haven't fitted them yet. A few folks have used them and said they fit FFR pipes.

I got Drummermikes flat black shields. They definately help. W/o a shield you get an instant very painful 3-4 weeks to heal burn. W/ the shields you get some reddening and maybe a low grade burn. The problem is that you usually have at least halve of your weight on the leg that just hit the pipe. You simply can not move fast enough to avoid major pain w/ unshielded pipes.
