CT Coupe Registration
Hello All,
I'm a new member thinking about doing a coupe build in CT. Can any experienced builders shed some light on the inspection process in CT, specifically with regard to side exhaust? According to CT's composite vehicle regulations: "vehicles equipped with exhaust pipes exiting to the side, forward of the rear axle, must extend rearward beyond any passenger door openings."
If this was enforced, I don't see how any coupe (or roadster for that matter) could ever pass inspection since the exhaust ends right under the doors. Is this requirement just ignored, or is there some loophole that I'm missing?
Any info on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Steve & Others
I live in CT and am about a quarter through my build. I have been researching registration requirements (yes it was a case of ready, fire, aim when I bought the kit) and have had exactly the same question as you. What’s not clear is whether the vehicle qualifies as a “replica” or as a “composite vehicle”, as it would seem to meet the definition of both. The replica requirements are very light (e.g. no emissions test) while the composite vehicle requirements seem to be very challenging (emissions test, noise limits, side pipe restrictions etc). I am going to find a half a day between Christmas and New Year to call the DMV to see if I can get clarity. If I do, I will post back here.
In the meantime, if anyone has been through the CT DMV torture, sorry “process”, and can help us out, that would be AWESOM!
Thanks

Suggest researching your town property tax, especially if you are in Middletown. You may be served a hefty annual tax…
