    Another Paint Color Question

    So,
I have been toying with the paint colors and was thinking of my favorite past car (1984 Mitsu Starion) and how I loved the 2 tone -Nevada sand/burgundy. It was a great Oregon color, you could not tell it was dirty!

I originally was looking to do a plane dark type red with white stripe, keeping it pretty simple. Now I have shifted to thinking a white/pearl or off white pearl with red stripes. Where is a good source to order some color chip books to just start to looking at colors. Internet is nice but not really eye friendly.

Once I narrow down a path, I will discuss with a pro but would like to just look some stuff over.

Does anyone have pictures of a similar color type? Any input accepted.

The 1.5 years wife and I spent deciding on color I realized the absolute best way to look at a color is on a car. I surprised several people in parking lots asking them what year their car was because I liked the color. RE; your dark red. That was my chosen stripe color and I was working at a Lexus dealer in the 2002-2012 timeframe. Somewhere in there they came out w/ a red that would change at different angles to the sun and pick up a slight gold tint. So I had my stripes done that color. But it was a 3 stage color so cost extra. And since the stripes are so narrow the color change didn't really happen. Kind of disappointed as I could have gone w/ any similar 2 stage color.

Best way to see colors is to cruise the car lots. Paint chips (unless sprayed on a speed shape) are going to be on a flat sheet and won't give you a true representation of how they react, flop and change on the curves or when viewed from different angles. Especially true with pearls. It's really hard to capture the full effect in photos...I think maybe because the camera doesn't have the ability to get the depth or 3D that our eye does. The pearl whites sometimes have a yellow or gold cast to them but I've found and used some that are more pure. When talking pearl whites you need to keep in mind that they are all tri-coats so the material and labor costs are both significantly higher. Anyway, here are some examples:

Code QAC; "Aspen White" when used on a Nissan and "Moonstone White" on Infiniti (this is "Papa" Dave Cabral's car)

    And another of the same:

Another nice pure white pearl is GM code WA485B "White Frost" used on Buicks:

Also check out Hyundai code YW6 "Casablanca White" (this is the live build Coupe that I did with FFR at the SEMA show a few years ago)

Sounds like the color scheme you're considering is the reverse of what I did for Scott Donnelly which is Painthouse Randyapplered3 and the Nissan/Infiniti QAC

Good luck---color is often builders most difficult and agonizing decision!

Great, thanks for the info, as always. I am going thru dealer websites to see what ones I need to go cruise this spring.

The Portland Roadster Show is March 14 & 15. Great place to check out some really cool car paint! The only down side is its indoors, but always worth the trip.
