    Water pump

Not really sure what water pump works best as far as the outlet high volume or not. I'm running a 408 Windsor I will be just touring and street driving 99% of the time. Any recommendations.

I would ad that much depends on the Accessory Drive you are using. Ford has about 6 different water pump and timing cover configurations Some Clockwise some Counter-Clockwise, some exit on the passenger side, some exit on the drivers side.

If you already have the timing cover, identify if it is reverse or not, then I would choose the Accessory Drive you want. There are three different Water Pump shaft lengths, so depending on where your alternator pulley sits you may need a short pump etc.

This is good information, this all started buy my engine builder asking what timing cover I prefer. Then this led me to what water pump requirements are best for my application, this helps me somewhat but what works best passenger side or driver's side discharge as far as ease of the radiator hose or is this just a preference. Thanks for your expertise

I'm using the same water pump as Mike Bray, based on his recommendation. Seems be high quality.

This has proven to be one of the more frustrating steps during my build. I am attempting to "disguise" a 306 as a 1967 289 hipo. I learned that sometime in the late 60's, mid '69 IIRC, Ford went to a driver's side inlet water pump that was a standard rotation. So, I thought it would be reasonable to order the v-belt pulleys, water pump, timing cover, alternator bracket, timing pointer, etc... for a 1970 Mustang with a 302 Windsor. After I put the long block together, I started to install the FEAD. Not one single pulley lined up. The crank pulley was out of line with the water pump pulley by about 1/2" and the alternator pulley was out of line with the water pump pulley by about 3/8". And don't even get me started on attempting to find all the correct length 5/16 bolts to put it all together. I must have spent over $100 buying 5/16 bolts and now have at least 10 of each length between 1 inch and 7 inches in 1/4 inch increments... hell, I probably spent $100 in 5/16 bolts. What I ended up doing was purchasing some 5/16 and 7/16 "all thread" and made over length studs. I then used washers to space out the alternator and crank pulley to line up with the water pump pulley. I then double nutted the "all thread" and took everything back apart. I measured the washer stacks to get the length spacers I needed, ordered some aluminum round stock from McMaster-Carr, and made up the spacers. Luckily, my machinist buddy had a piece of round stock aluminum large enough to make a spacer for the crank pulley... I then measured the length of the studs I made from the double nuts and subtracted a 1/4" to get the correct length bolts I needed for each attachment point. This process took about a week and a half to get the FEAD all lined up and installed.

Attached is a pic of how the "289 hipo" FEAD turned out... hopefully, the pic attached.

I've had good success with FlowKooler on my 414W.

That pulley set looks to be 1 to1 ratio on the crank and water pump. That will spin the water pump faster than stock or common replacement kits.
Not necessarily a bad thing, but might want to take that into consideration of your plans.

Thanks: I bought it because it fits my build overall look that I'm going for. I'll check it out closer.

This is why I'm researching this before I get to that point. I have the ability to make many of the specialty things my brother is a machinist this is a tremendous advantage thanks for the heads up.
