Cutting the body dash rolls
Y’all, a quick question on how body dash roll should be trimmed at the corners. In these pics you can see I’ve trimmed the body dash roll to a consistent ~1/2”. At the ends of the roll, if I maintain a 1/2” thickness the edge will curve. The dash is straight in that plane and position(I think) so it seems I should continue trimming to the line as drawn. I’m having a tough time visualizing this and want to get it close before dropping the body on. Guidance? IMG_6166.jpegIMG_6164.jpeg

In my case the body was on the car and the dash and rear panels were temporarily in place with Clecos which made it very easy to draw the lines.
I marked the front cowl and rear bulk head areas of the body with a Black Sharpie and then went at those areas with with a belt sander.
I didn't use an rather minimally aggressive grit on the sander which allowed me to sneak up on the lines that I had drawn.
The good news is it made a very clean and even line so the body went on with easy during reassembly.

Thanks GoDadGo. After more diligent searching I found a couple threads in the forum focused on the dash roll. I may trim the ends toward my line a little bit but now I think I’m good enough to not interfere with the dash(not padded) moving the body forward. So when I put the body on I’ll check the clearance and mark a new line for consistent gap if necessary.
BTW, I made a marking jig which allowed me to mark a constant distance from the rolled edge. Then I put painters tape at the line. I used 80 grit on a 3” angle air grinder to remove most of the material. Then I used 80 grit on a 6” air orbital sander (good suggestion Jeff Kleiner) to sneak up to the tape line.
I also used the orbital for a pass on the entire underside prepping for undercoat.

I think I'd wait until the body and doors are on the car to do your final trim.

Very good point because when I marked my body I had my permanent mounting screws on the underside of the body in place (3 per side) that had NO WIGGLE ROOM.
It was a real pain in the neck when we set the body back in place to get all of the screws back in after the paint has been done.
The screws holes were so tight we had to drill them out to get the paint out of them in order for the screws to fit.
With that being said, I'd love to build another car but I don't need two Cobras.
Again Good Point!
