Jack's 33 HR Journey Begins
Well, HR 530 arrived this afternoon. 30 minutes, and 20 boxes later, the Stage 1 kit was in my garage. Started the inventory, mostly wanted to get the parts needed for the powder coater. What I have this far:
- Upper and lower front control arms
- Motor mount plates and side pieces
- (4) front end pieces with zerk fitting holes (not sure what they are yet)
- Radiator mounts left and right
Did I miss anything? Anyone have any opinions on how I can get the grease our of the ball joints before coating? I was thinking copious amounts of brake cleaner, then have the coater bake the rest of the grease out. Any ideas how long that will take?

Congrats. If you look in the beginning of the assembly manual, you will find a list of commonly powder coated parts. Some of the parts are items like the door and trunk hinges etc. Let me know if I can help. Good luck.

Thanks. Yeah I saw that too. I am trying soaking the ends in Berryman's parts cleaner for the week to see if it gets rid of the grease, then blow it out with some brake cleaner.

Congratulations Jack. Take your time with the build and enjoy the many hours you're gonna spend in the garage. Attention to detail, though time consuming, will put a smile on your face for years to come. And read as many build threads and tips on this and the other forum by those that have been there before us. Enjoy the Journey. You can go so many ways with this car!

Brake clean and a blow gun from a good air compressor will do it. Good luck with your build.

That should work great with the 33. It will be hard keeping rear tires on it though. LOL

Yeah...and I have a lead foot too, good thing I went cheaper on the tires. I cannot wait to go cart her.

Jack, just saw your blog. As for seats, those aren't going to fit I'm afraid unless you do some mods to the tunnel. Make sure you check some of the other other posts on the matter before you purchase. You've really only got 18W" with the stock tunnel setup and there are VERY few comfortable, non- racing buckets that will fit in there. Best of luck. Here is a guide to most of the seats that might fit in a Miata which translates pretty well to the HR. Still 18" is what you have to start with.

That's what I see from measuring them as well...I was thinking of altering the tunnel once I get the motor in and see what I have to work with. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
