Question for all you Dodge Ram hemi owners

Anyone change their own oil? I have a 2008 Ram 1500 hemi that has only ever had its oil changed by me. The capacity is listed as 7.5 quarts if you change the filter, which I do every time or what's the point.

Every time I change, I add 7.5 quarts, start it, let it run for a few minutes to fill all the galleys and bring the pressure up, then shut it off and let it drain down for a few minutes. Then I check it. It is over a quart low on the stick every time.

Last couple of changes, I've put in a bit over 8 quarts to sort of split the difference between what the book says and what the dipstick says. But it still bothers me.

    Anyone else have this?

(BTW, the eighth digit of my VIN is a 2 rather than a D, I don't know what that means except the oil filter threads are different, so maybe there's a different pan too, that changes the capacity?)

    Thoughts appreciated.

The D is for the SMPFI gas V8. The 2 is for the multiple displacement engine. You'de have to research those two engines to find info about the oil capacity.
