    Front tire 215/40/17 VS 215/45/17 ??

How bad will the fronts rub with the 215/45/17 tire? I have my wheels ordered (to FFR recommended size/offsets) and am torn between Dunlop ZII star spec in 215/40/17 (FFR recommended) and getting (what I really want) the new Bridgestone RE71R only available in the 215/45/17 (and currently with a $70 rebate)

I am using steel lower control arms on my 818s. I gocarted with a set of 235/45/17's and they rubbed the corner aluminum very badly, but they are very tall (from my 12 wrx)

The OD is what matters right?
    215/40/17 is 23.8"
    215/45/17 is 24.6"

I didn't answer your question, but thought it was important to add diameter info.

I am looking at what it would take to fit a larger tire.

and a 235/40/17 is 24.4" And the fun part of being one of the early builders, waiting for the list of "this size will/won't work and why" before buying parts and finding out the hard/expensive way

215/40/17 are the suggested size and already a tight fit. 215/45/17 seem to be possible, but difficult to squeeze in.

Suggestion: use google to search the site rather than the search box. just type your search term and then site:thefactoryfiveforum.com afterwards. found the above articles as the 2nd and 3rd results after this thread just by searching "215/40/17"

Stebru84, I bought 215/45/17 tires because the early manual listed that size but they rub badly on the frame and splash panel with a 2/3 turn. Soon I'll replace these with 215/40/17 so if you want to buy my two 215/45/17 Michelin Pilot Super Sport XL tires with only 5 miles on them, PM me. I paid $292 for them but will make someone a good deal.
818S/C : Chassis #25 with 06 WRX 2.5 turbo, ABS, cruise, PS, A/C, Apple CarPlay, rear camera, power windows & locks, leather & other complexities. Sold 10/19 with 5,800 miles.
    Mk3 Roadster #6228 4.6L, T45, IRS, PS, PB, ABS, Cruise, Koni's, 17" Halibrands, red w/ silver - 9K miles then sold @ Barrett-Jackson Jan 2011 (got back cash spent).
