Did lots of work this weekend.
Two suggestions
Look at the inside tab welds on those upper a arms at the chassis. You might need to trim one or more of those bushings where their shoulder rubs too hard on the frame welds. If the A-arm won't droop back down under it's own weight when you lift it and let go it needs more work IMO. Some have ground the welds for clearance but that is risky so I prefer to clearance the shoulder of the bushing for about 1/4 circle so it rotates without binding.
The body mold is not the same side to side and several of us have agreed that a full length 1/4" spacer under the rocker on the pass side will level the cowl area. Do that spacer BEFORE trimming the top of the firewall so you don't trim too much off of it. If you look at a lot of the finished 33's from the front they look wonky. The combo of the cowl too low on the passenger side and the rad shell/Grille bars leaning to the drivers side makes for a screwy look.

Almost rolling on its own! image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg
I spent $35 today to get the car rolling.

I have been in a holding pattern for the last couple of weeks. The engine builder found some problems with my rebuild but all I had to do is throw money at it. I got it back yesterday and now back to work.

3 coats of POR15 fitted the engine candy on and picked up the transmission today.

Hard at work today getting some progress. Had a friend give me a hand the engine is in. Thanks Rich!

Never thought the grill was so much work. But it's done.

Today is a big day. I'm go-carting finally. The engine started up and ran like a dream.

So did you use the factory five downpipes or did you custom make your own?
That 'rod sounds awesome! Do you have a go-car video yet? Go-carting is a huge milestone, and can really re-energize the build.
Congrats!

It's so strange how some people have a huge problem with the factory mufflers spewing fiberglass all over the place - and others do not. When I started mine for the first time, I coughed a bit from the fine particles (now where is the phone number for that television attorney that specializes in asbestos/fiberglass lung problems?) - but there was nothing you could see in the air. Since then, they have been perfect - although I have only driven it a few times. No fiberglass and it sounds completely awesome - loud enough, but not too loud.

I am now a go kart what a blast.

The car has a body good day today.

Had to take the week off of the build. I cut the end of my finger off drilling a piece of metal. Just as the bit came though the back side of the stock and it spun around and clipped my finger. The worst part is it was my middle finger. Back to work on the build this weekend. Every car has to have cup holders!

Try my hand at upholstering tomorrow. More photos to come.

Fitted trunk lid today. The hard part was to get my big body to fit in the small opening from under the car.

Put my new tires on the car tonight. WOW it changes the whole look of the car Awesome!
Photos of the tires. I have the rear lights working and carpet in the trunk.

If someone is going to put air in there hot rod take note..........put the windshield on before you permently mount the body. Maybe I just have big hands but dang that was hard, I have scratches all over my arms.

Dave-
She is looking good. You are making short work of this build!
Do you have a color picked out yet?
How does she drive?
Regards,
Steve
I have picked a colour I am going with candy root beer over silver. I had a good conversation with Dave Smith when I purchased the kit and he sujested to drive the car for a season then paint it. This is the best drive I have ever had. It's like it's on tracks. I went with a lumpy cam and it sounds awesome. I am almost 6 months from the start of the build and I'm down the road.
6 months and many busted knuckles and I am on the road. Check out my latest video I'm going for a spin.

Dave,
Hello, my name is Bruce Smith, and I've been working on my '33 for a couple years now. Watched your video and appreciated that great "turn-around" at the end of your street! If you don't mind I have a question about the shifter I saw in one of the pics you posted concerning the console. It looks like you are using a B&M "Hammer" shifter, and I am considering using the same on my Ford 4R70W auto. I was wondering what your opinion is of the quality and "use-ability" of that unit.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Bruce
Hi Bruce I like the shifter. It was a good price and it works great. It is a little stiff to change gears. I tied in the neutral safety switch to the clutch safety switch in the wiring under the dash. I also ran a wire for reverse light that I am going to instal on the car. I also reinforced the tunnel with some fender washers. If you have any questions PM me.
Dave,
Thanks a lot! I appreciate the response.
Bruce
I was always afraid that I would forget to tighten a nut or screw and something would go terribly wrong on a drive. This came true I forgot to tighten the nut that holds the steering wheel on. I noticed the wheel was loose and when I got home it was holding on by a couple of threads. I could not help but think of of Taladaga race this spring and Dale Jr.
