Topping off my 351w.. Need suggestions.

So I'm going with a 351w from Tristar engines. It's a mid dress engine. It will come with a timing cover, water pump, oil pan, and valve covers. My question is... What bits do you guys recommend to finish it off?

Distributor
Intake manifold (I would like to fit the oval cobra air cleaner.)
Carburetor I'm thinking Holley 750dp
Alterntor and/or brackets.
Serpentine system...


Not sure if I'm leaving anything else out...

I know I need plug wires, thermostat and other small misc items.

What all do you guys recommend?

I like Edelbrocks bright finish on their intakes and water pumps. I would probably go with the part number Tristar offers optionally for the engine.

750 is too large for a 351. Go 650 mech secondaries double pumper of your choice. Edelbrock Performer RPM is on mine. I would also check the air gap model to see if it will allow the air cleaner. Re: air cleaner - it is pretty well known that the usual cobra oval air cleaner doesn't flow very well unless you go w/ a thicker element.

Don't forget the bottom side needs a low profile oil pan such as Moroso or similar and the back end needs a flywheel and starter.

Oil pan I have 4 options. If you hit the link I believe they are front sump, rear sump, Morison pan, or fox mustang pan. I thought I read somewere that the pans that are sold to put the 351w in mustangs fit under our frame rails. I may be mistaken tho.

That's the end game there!!! Stack injection!! I just don't have room in the budget for it now!!

For the pan you want something w/ good baffles. I prefer the rear sump so I have the best chance of having oil while accelerating. When I bought my car from the original builder I didn't think about the pan. A month later I spun a rod bearing. Turns out the pan was a front sump w/ no baffles at all and the rear of the sump was about a 45 deg angle so I surmised that the oil was moving away from the pickup on accel.

My 408 Tristar Windsor came with nearly everything. It dyno'd at 510 hp and 540 torque. It has a roller cam too. Manifold, carb and distributor that made those numbers are in my car, no guesswork. I also got their Concept 1 billet pulleys, a/c compressor and alternator. Only one piece needed mods to fit with the timing brackets. I do need a different oil pan since I have only 2" clearance to the road.
