By "left" do you mean driver's side?

"Left" and "Right" always refer to that side of the car while facing forward. Page 21 of the IRS instructions http://www.factoryfiveparts.com/cont...2-2015-irs.pdf shows the difference between the two CV axles. That by itself isn't going to explain why yours are stopping three inches before seating though. Sounds like you don't have the splines quite lined up. But once you get them ready to seat, if you have them backwards, they won't seat properly if on the wrong sides. Don't use the dead blow hammer I described or any other extra force except for the last inch or so. That's when they click in. Should be pretty free up to there.
