Nice car. The M series are nice driving machines, the only issue I have with them is they are expensive to maintain outside warranty.

No argument on the cost of ownership. I sort of consider that the price of admission, though.

While that is true (been driving them for 20 years) if you can wrench on any of them the cost of ownership is much less.
    Nice ///M Papa.

Although the M550i is not a true "M" car, the balance of luxury and performance is very well done. This is my 3rd BMW and I have to say I've not had any reliability issues in nearly 8 years of ownership. Also, buying CPO is a great way to enjoy a used BMW. I have three and a half years (unlimited mileage) of warranty coverage remaining on this car. This one was a special order by the original owner and it has nearly every option available as well as some nice a-la-carte options like carbon fiber mirror and spoiler, Napa leather, staggered wheels, M rocker detail, etc. Put this thing in Sport mode, and it's a raging beast. Put is in comfort mode and it's an elegant luxury sedan. Looking under the hood and under the car, it is obvious that none of the 22,000 miles this car has were spent in the rain or snow. It literally looks brand new from top to bottom.

Congrats! I've had one for 2.5 years and still love it. As you say, Comfort mode is lazy mode and Sport Plus is a lot of fun. My only complaint is the car is heavy and feels heavy, not very agile but then a 5 series isn't intended to be a sports car. I added numerous bits of M parts including wheels, carbon fiber splitter and other CF parts, along with black bits to remove the Cerium Grey. Also added a ACS exhaust that sounds so much better than the stock bimmer one.

As for reliability, I had a 645 w/6 spd manual for 11 years with absolutely no issues whatsoever just standard maintenance. Some of the true M cars have issues I know, buddy had an M6 that was a pain in the pocket book.

I talked mama into the car, but she ain't gonna let me put a $5k exhaust on it (yet). They do sound good, though.

You must be looking at Dinan exhausts.
I bought headers from a company in Europe ($2K) and a dual tip Vibrant stainless muffler.

Love it. I have had dozens of cars, but haven't had a single BMW.

I have on of those gentleman's hot rods, just the Audi version. It corners like a miata and has 560hp/500ft lbs !
