    Issue with #2 cylinder?

    Hey Guys,

Have always had a miss that comes and goes, mostly goes. 331 stroker with (old) mass flo fuel injection. So, I have been hunting the issue and replaced pretty much all of the ignition components (PIP, TFI, wires, coil, plugs) and problem still there. So, I was reading some thread on here on a completely unrelated topic and this guy was using a infrared thermometer to point at the header to make sure the cylinder was firing. Well, on that whim, I decided to do the same. BTW, the car runs rather well, but just a nagging miss.

Interestingly, all cylinders record about 360-390 degrees except #2, which reports 470-520 degrees? I checked for vacuum leak with carb cleaner around the intake and no apparent leak. Could this be an injector problem? Is there a way to test to make sure it is working properly. it is a 30# injector, are they standard or is there a particular replacement I should be looking at? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Chris

Move an injector from another cylinder to #2.

If the problem with #2 persists then it's in the circuit. If it moves, then it's the injector. But that's just my guess and I know little about EFI.

Now about header temps. Where you take the reading will affect the temp. I've found that generally at straight section of tube temps will read a bit cooler than a curved section. I believe that this is due to an easy pass-by or a slow & turn condition collecting more heat. Try to find a consistent and available location for measuring the temps.

Well, Jim, that is an excellent idea! Why didn't I think of that? regarding temperatures, I did try and was mostly successful on attempting to check the same spot on each pipe. since it is only 1 out of 8, I must assume the temp gauge is working properly and 7 of them measure within a few percentage numbers of each other.

I will try and report back!

    Thank you,
    Chris
