    Remote Trunk Release? Any ideas?

I'm thinking that I would like to install a remote trunk release (electric?, cable?, keyed?) and remove the FF stock trunk handle. My main reason for this is to accomplish a work around for the fact that the license plate wont fit properly on the MK4. But I also like the idea of the remote release for other reasons. As I've just started thinking about this, I figured I'd ask what others have done, as I have no doubt someone else has already figured out the best way to make this happen. Pictures, plans and part numbers are sure appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I used the electric latch from the donor. I made a bracket to mount the latch under the trunk floor and put a catch on the trunk lid. I put the button for the electric latch hidden from view and added a manual catch just in case the battery in the truck gave up the ghost and I needed to get in there to service it. Here are a few pictures.

The 1/4"X20 machine screw (above picture) acts as the manual release.

    There are aftermarket kits.

Don't use an electric one if the battery is in the trunk if that would be the only way in. If you still have a handle, no problem.
