What is the offset for wheels on the 818S ?
Like many of you - every night i lay in bed thinking about my 818
What is the wheel offset? I want some old school BBS's i think - everything i am finding is 17x8.5 ET13 which seem too pokey..
Dont most subaru's have higher offset?
Anyone know the size / width and offset of those 18's they had on the blue car at the track?
thanks

those old BBS wheels are made for a RWD car... FWD typically run higher offset so those wheels will stick out too far.

Virtually all OEM Subaru wheels are 53mm offset. Virtually all aftermarket Subaru wheels are 44mm-48mm offset.
-
yeah et13 would be a bit much poke....
i will keep looking for something in high 40's
thanks

unrelated but maybe relevent can sti hubs be used on wrx uprights. so you have the option of 114s instead of just 100s without adaptors?

Nope. The main reason for the upgrade was to upgrade the wheel bearings. So the 114 hubs won't fit the I.D. of the 100 bearings, and the 114 bearing won't fit in the 100 upright. Mutually exclusive unless custom machining gets involved.

ok lets go one step further & ask based on limited info from recent tests what would be best guess of street set up & track set up be. I personally want true staggerd wheels & have been searching for 2 sets of the same wheels. One in 17" one in 18". My theory is 17s up front 18s in rear one set with street tires one set with Hoosiers for the track. My guess is 7.5" up front8.5" in rear. I am getting 818R, but lets guess for both cars.

A 255 is 10" wide. Will that work OK on a 9" rim? If so, why not go 225 up front on the 8" rim?
-
I rand 255 starspecs on a 17x8 once. Did it to see what would happen. Wouldn't do it again. Grip might've been higher, but you could feel the sidewall roll a little before it set. It really made my confidence level go down, so I was overall slower.

The tire sizes that they used up front were all that we're available at the time in that tire. Jim told me a 215-225 would have been what they wanted. 255 Hoosiers are the max out rear, maybe 265-275 with other tires but that will be trial and error or success

My question was really more about the proper rim size for a given tire width. A 225 is almost an inch wider than an 8" rim, and a 255 is a full inch (and a bit) wider than a 9" rim. Is this desirable or just workable? If the latter, what is the ideal rim size for a 225 and a 255?

If you go to TireRack's website and look at the specifications for a given tire model, they list the nominal rim width and acceptable range for every tire size. For example, go here:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Proxes+R1R and click on the 'Specs' tab.
-
I ran Scca AS class about 8 years ago and the Maximum rim width was 8". We ran 255s Hoosiers. I believe 8" was there smallest recommended wheel size for that tire. Worked very well. And was actually the tire size of choice for most of the guys I knew
-
Xusia go to Hoosiers website & download pdf that gives all tire sizes, recommended wheel sizes etc.. Page 21 is everything relevant to dry A6 R6 tires page 22 is the wets. I personally want (eventually) street tires, A6, R6, & Wets. I'm highly considering 17 x 8.5 up front 18 x 10 in back. I think I have found my wheels. 2nd option is 18 x 8.5 & 18 x10.5 very difficult choice for me when you consider I will need 16 total by time I'm set.
Tire sizes I want would be 225 front 275 rear, but I guess that might be too wide out back according to metalmakers post.
I currently run 225 45 15 Hoosiers on my Miata on 9" wheels. 8.5" will be fine. I also have 275 35 15s on 10" wide would like them to be 10.5" ideally.

I would say 215-235 for an 8 and 245-265 for a 9, although I am running a 235 on a 7.5

Actually, there are multiple factors. Wheel diameter and tire profile come into play as well. For example, anyone opting to use the stock Subaru 16" X 6 1/2" wheels will find that they will easily accommodate 225-50 tires (which also keeps the tire diameter in the stock range). These tires would even fit on 6" wide rims. In general, taller profiles seem to allow a wider range of tire widths for a given wheel size.
I understand that the guys working this thread are mostly talking about 17" and 18" wheels, which changes the rim width range significantly (due to the need for lower profiles). But there will be plenty of folks opting for the stock 16" WRX wheels. They should not get confused by the numbers being tossed around here......

I'm planning on 18x8 +35 up front and 18x9 +35 in the rear. From what I've seen that should work well.

Yea, Silvertop does bring up the fact that taller profiles due allow for wider mm ranges. Also as mentioned before tirerack has the rim size range for all the tires they sell under the tire specs. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Proxes+R1R
I am running a 5x100 BBS STI 17x7.5 rim with 235/45/R17 RS3 Hankook's. I have run this size and tire combo on a WRX, STI and a GTI, and it has worked very well. I am also going to run a staggered set that are 17-18x8.5 with 235's up front and 18x9.5 with 255's rear

I run a 255 R1S on my 04 WRX on a 17x9" Wheel. We're planning on 17x8 front and 18x9 rear on our S and 17x9 and 18x10.5 on the R.
FWIW I have access to anything from Enkei, even hard to find 5x100 wheels. I can even do special orders BUT they're minimum 60 wheels all the same color/size/offset.

Bumping this thread.
With the above specs shown on the 818R, I'm hoping something similar will work on the 818S.
I've just found my dream wheels for this car and they even have my favorite tires (RE55S) mounted on them although I'll probably have to sell the tires since they are 245's all around. They are bronze limited edition Volk CE28N "Gymkhana Spec" wheels for dedicated gymkhana Imprezas (which run different slightly different wheel sizes but same tires sizes from what I've read). Condition is practically brand new, not a scratch on them. They aren't available any more in these sizes with the 5x100 bolt pattern, close sizes in 5x100 would run about $800 per wheel without tires from any of the US importers.
Specs:
18x8.5 +50 (16lbs)
18x9 +40 (16.4lbs)
With the 818R running a 8" +45 and 9" +35 these wheels would have 11mm less strut clearance and 1mm further out on the front. They would be 5mm less strut clearance and 5mm sunk in on the rear.
Can anyone think of a reason that these wheels would not work on the 818S?

You will be able to use those wheels and tires
-
Tires too? 245's on the front?
I could see using both of them as rears, but I'll have to get matching sets of 225's for the front. Not sure I want to run R-compounds on the street anyways, not living in Seattle where it could rain at any given time.

I'm getting them. The price is right, especially if the tires are in near-new condition, I can sell them for $450 or so to a track junkie.
After doing some thinking and research, I don't want 245's on the front with no power steering and the RE55s has a treadwear rating of "0" LOL. I ran them before on my old Civic Type R but only at the track. My 818 will be primarily a street car.

I really like the look of the factory Nissan 370 nismo wheels. I'm not sure of the size or them or the tires but anybody think they would fit with wheel adapters?
-
Those are 19" wheels and fairly wide, I think 9.5 front and 10.5 rear. Those would be tough to fit on a stock fender 818. But with some fiberglass work or added fender flares, they might work with the 15mm 5x100 to 5x114.3 adapters.

I will buy those wheels from you!!!!!!!!!!

The 818R had 17x8 with 48 mm offset front and 18x9 with 40mm offset. Jim said a 40 mm offset on the front would be better.

Thanks for the response!
So assuming they were running those specs in these recent pictures, it seems 18x9 +40 is just about perfect. For aesthetic reasons, I agree that the fronts could use a 10mm lower offset.

anyone have a shot of how much internal clearance there is? hoping to run 18x9.5 +40s all around.

My current wheels are 18x9.5 + 48. I'm hoping to get 18x8.5's for the fronts. An offset of +35 makes the 8.5" wheels flush with the outside of the 9.5" wheels. Maybe I should just get +48's again for the 8.5" wheels so that I can play with spacers to get exactly where I want.
-
Made some sketches in solidworks to compare wheels.
An 18x9.5 +48 makes the outside of my wheel match the 18x9 within .065". The inside of my wheel will be inwards an extra .565".
Compared to a 17x8 +48, an 18x8.5 +35 would poke out .762" more and be .262" shorter on the inside.
Compared to a 17x8 +40 the 18x8.5+35 would stick out .447" more and wider on the inside by .05".
-

hrmm.. I don't know if the extra 6mm is there on the outside. Might end up with a hellaflush look without even trying.
48 may be the way to go... but doesn't exist in the wheel I want... double

Do we have any clue as to the r's alignment specs?
-
Any thoughts to a spare (thinking solo road trip) for the S version?
-
There should be enough storage room for a spare in the front. If you use stock brakes just use one of the wheels from your donor car.
