Belt tensioner avail for no air conditioning or power steering???

So I have little Subaru knowledge:

(I do have a bunch of big piles of 2005 WRX donor parts tho!)

I want to run my 818 as a more basic ride, no power steering or air conditioning, simple to delete the two pumps, use a single shorter belt... but what about a tensioner? Am I going to have to fabricate one? The existing ones don't look like they will work...

FFRs prototype 818 already is in configuration.

That doesn't really answer my question...

Looking at the WRX motor the belt tensioners seem to be sort of integrated into the pumps, so when they are removed, the belt doesn't have a tensioner for the alternator. Is there a subaru tensioner available or do I need to modify one of the existing ones to be an alternator belt tensioner?

AC belt is separate from the PS/Alt belt. So no problem there.

The bracket that the PS Pump sits in is what the alternator uses to give tension to the belt. It's the alternator that provides the tension. Deleting the PS would provide no problem measuring for and getting tension to just a belt for the Alternator

PS pulley on left (larger). Alt pulley on right (smaller). Crank pulley behind hose.

    Different angle of the above.

Close up of ps bracket with ps pump still in it.

Just cut down the ps bracket to a minimum and reinstall it to mount the alternator and tension it.

Thanks for the great photos... w/o tearing them apart it looked like that tensioner was part of the device vs a complex aluminum bracket... It looks like it can be chopped and cleaned up nicely!

Trimmed my alt. bracket down and used an Outfront mount for the pivot side. This got rid of the massively heavy AC mount.

Here's the Outfront Alt. bracket. Works good, but cheap plating - getting some pinhole corrosion spots despite never having seen any real weather exposure. I may just have it refinished with powder coat.

I butchered the cast mountings in a similar way. Belts are easy to get hold of, measure with a piece of string then order from local motor fators

OK, so in another thread you used the phrase 'break the car', which I know translates in Amercan to 'part out the car'. I also know chips are fries, crisps are chips, bonnet is a hood, boot is a trunk, lorry is a truck, bobby is a cop, randy is horny, but uh, what are 'Motor Fators'?

    Definition for motor factors:
    Web definitions:
A supplier of car parts and accessories.
    en.wiktionary.org/wiki/motor_factors

In other words, and autoparts store.

Sorry, the "c" and the "i" keys are missing from the laptop keyboard, and sometimes don't work, adding to the confusion, must get another one at some point.

Do you have a link for the belt you used after removing the ps pump? And sorry for the newbie question, my motor didn't come with belts :-)
