    Speedometer Plug Location

I have a 289 CI with a TKO 600 transmission. I am locating the wiring harness and wonder what the best location for the speedometer sending unit wires at the transmission are. Currently I have those wires located at the center of the tunnel. Should they be closer to the front or rear or is near the middle good?

    Thanks, Joel

There are two connections for the speed sensor on a TKO. Both are roughly in the middle of the length of the transmission. The left side uses an external sensor, and really is only needed if you have a speedo that requires an old school spinning cable. Otherwise, get the required cover to plug the opening. Note the rubber plug that comes with the transmission in that location is only for shipping, and cannot be left there permanently. The right side has a connector for a built-in speed sensor. Probably this is the one you should use. The RF harness already has a plug that connects to it directly.

Paul, I have realized since I posted this question that mine is a GPS speedometer. Given that, I do not believe I need a connection at the transmission at all, correct? Joel

Nope. No speed sensor required for the GPS speedometer. Still make sure to plug the LH side sensor with the proper part. On mine, I still plugged in the connector from the RF harness on the RH side of the TKO and just tied off the wires in the dash harness. Just in case they were ever needed for something. But pretty unlikely and just as easily could have been removed.
