    RF Hazard Switch to Button - Suggested Wiring

    I’m trying to replace the RF hazard switch to a Billet Automotive LED button. From research on the forums there seems to be a need for a diode, but I can’t figure out how to wire it all together. Button only has a “+” and ground. Anyone have suggestion of how to wire the hazard button together to a button?

    Typically diodes are to prevent backfeeding when using a single indicator light. If wired exactly like the RF manual shows with two indicators (left and right), diodes aren't needed. The challenge you have is the double pole switch shown in the RF manual is mandatory in order for the circuit to work properly. That's what keeps the left and right circuits separated unless the hazard is switched on. Your single pole switch could be used to switch a double pole relay. That's the only way I know of that would work.

    Perhaps stating the obvious, if you can get the button switch in a DPST configuration it will replace the supplied toggle switch directly without any other changes

    As of now, the setup is exactly as the RF manual suggests. From what I can tell, the LED button I plan to use is not setup as DPST configuration ... HERE. Is there something I can put between the button and the wires to get it into a DPST configuration? Forgive me, I'm learning what a DPST is on the fly.

    The link for that switch says it's only rated for 5 amps. That's not much. Says to use a relay, which is what I suggested. The diodes installed as F33rod illustrated should work. But again concern with draw across the switch. If using LED's, you might be OK. But could be close. If using regular incandescent bulbs, all four running plus the flasher would easily be over the switch capacity.

    I have this exact switch on my car and its working well. I am using the Russ Thompson turn signal setup so its a little different with a few more connections/components in the loop. Let me know if you are still having issues and can layout what I did.

    Agreed Paul, the hot rod has all LED so that was my mindset at the time.

    Here's the diagram including a relay. The relay contacts are now replacing the switch in the previous diagram and the push button switch is now activating the relay. Note that you should put a fuse between the pushbutton switch and the 12V source. A standard automotive (12V) relay rated at 20Amps will work fine.
