What year was my Cobra Made?

    IMG_3918.JPGIMG_3919.JPGHello Everyone,

I have just recently purchased my first cobra kit car! I have taken it out several times and have really enjoyed driving her. On my last go I have some rear shock issues. I had my mechanic put the car up on the lift to find that the rear shocks were being held up in a "higher position" by hose clamps and zip ties! .. So when my mechanic went to test the vehicle and step on her the back end fell beacuse the shock dropped all the way down. Anyway I went on to the factory five website to see about purchasing some new shocks and some of them are year specific. The gentlemen I purchased the vehicle from wasnt exactly sure when the car was manufactured. I am wondering if there is some place on the vehicle i could look to find my answer. I appreciate all your help!

It would help to know who you got the car from and a bunch of pics of the car, engine compartment and such would go a long way ay helping us help you figure it out.

...also, where are you located? Pics of the setup would help greatly too. I'm changing your account so you can create an album and upload some pics.

    Welcome yellocobra,
Any and all information that you can provide will help up determine what version of roadster you have.

    Hi Everyone,

I went ahead and posted some shots of the car. I still need to take a shot of the motor. I do know it is a 351 Cleveland.

Thank you everyone for all your help

I am almost positive that your car is not a Factory Five. Did the previous owner tell you that it was? Here are some clues
Spacing of the 2 front legs of the roll bar
    Diameter of the roll bar
    Door hinges are not FFR
End of the trans tunnel is not angled
    Body is different

The roll bar has a weird shape too. A shot of the engine compartment would help a lot, the hood hinges and front cross member. Any photo's of the frame?

    Hey yellowcobra,

This is not an FFR. There are just too many little details that are different that would not have been changed to improve the car. The inside door panels are not the same as well as the door hinge covers and the way the door latches are mounted. You can modify the FFR mount to accommodate both parts of the latch but it still would not look like it is on yours. Like GT500man mentioned, engine bay pics would tell a lot. I don't know what it is but I say not an FFR. Enjoy it!

My best guess at to who made it would be Arntz/Butler.
