I'm using a "Everstart" B-9, 690/580 battery in my cobra....Made by Johnson Controls and sold by Walmart ...The only reason I'm bring it up is....Its dated 2/09 and STILL good
Also I think the in-line batt. kill switch helps a lot w/ batt. longevity
ps: Its never been out of the car .its never been on Any charger.

I have a small Group 51 battery in the Breeze tray that is mounted in the front (engine compartment) of my Roadster. I is from a midwestern retail chain called "Farm & Fleet" and, if I remember correctly, cost something like 60 bucks. It's been in my car for three years with no signs of ever weakening - even after being in storage for five months of winter without any charging at all.
But, the AGM-type batteries are great in that the "recycle" the gasses internally and don't belch any of the corrosive acids, either in liquid or gas form.

I have the biggest battery that would fit in my battery box that was also stocked at my local auto shop. No, I don't think you need an expensive battery.

Are you asking about the group 51 size battery that fits into the Breeze battery box? Or just batteries in general?

Garden variety hundred dollar Autozone Duralast for a 1990ish Fox body 5.0 Mustang. Nine years and counting and it still starts the car.

I went on line. Found the optima red top battery for $129. Took the print of the page to Pep Boys. They had the battery for $229. They matched the price from the internet plus took an additional 5% off. I paid $122 for the Optima at Pep Boys. That was two years ago but if you want the optima this may be the way to go to save some money. I found one listed for $147.50 so with the additional 5% it would be $140 at the Boys. see http://www.streetsideauto.com/p/opti...FVVahgodj0QAYA
Mk4 Roadster, Picked up complete kit 8/22/14. Most FFR options except Wilwood brakes and IRS. First start 11/11/14. Go-kart 3/8/15. 347 Stroker, TKO 500, 3-link/3.27 rear. PA street legal 7/29/15.
Do some forum searches on Optima. Apparently the quality has drastically dropped in the last few years with major changes in parts quality and outsourcing. Their marketing arm is still doing great though pushing product. Standard good quality interstate or similar should give you years of trouble free use. The only time I would consider paying a lot more for a battery now would be weight, but that would only really be for race car use anyways.
Thanks guys, I didn't think the optima was real worth the extra bread.... Regular batt for me then.
