    Casting Call for Car Warriors!

Factory Five Racing Episode Needs Customers

I have some exciting news to announce. We will be working with the Speed Channel Show Car Warriors on a new show where two teams will be building side-by-side Factory Five '33 Hot Rods and YOU are invited to be on the build crew.

The two Factory Five '33 kits will have the body work completed, panels fit (primed and ready for paint), and all running gear for the build. Teams are limited to seven people and selection begins shortly.

The guys from Car Warriors contacted us and I loved the concept of building some quality cars on the show, however, we do not have the man power to staff two simultaneous builds. So, we came up with the idea of opening up the show to the Factory Five community. We've done this before with the Hot Rod Magazine five-day build (which was done mostly by customers) and the expertise and fellowship of the Factory Five community is something that will be fun to watch on TV. One great idea, depending on submissions, is to put together two Hot Rod building teams, East vs. West with the Mississippi River as the official dividing line.

    So, here's the program...

If you would like to participate and be on the show, you must meet the following qualifications, send in a video application, and agree to the terms of the show:

    Qualifications:

You must have built, or presently be building, a Factory Five Racing car (any model).
You must be available for filming the show on November 14-18 in North Ridge, CA
You will have to pay your own travel expenses
You must be a nice person and promise to do your best and compete with good sportsmanship
    Video application:

Answer the following questions in a video of yourself. The video should not be more than 3 minutes and should include the following.

1 - State your name, spell your name, and state your hometown, city/state.
2 - Describe the Factory Five vehicle that you built (i.e. model, year, running gear, hours to build, color, etc.)
3 - Describe your best car skills (i.e. painting, engine building, assembly, customization, wiring, craftsmanship, speed).
4 - Tell us a first car story, a funny car story, an inspirational story, or something about yourself that you feel is important.

Please e-mail your video to [email protected] by using a service such as YouSendIt for free or send it to us on a DVD. The video should be submitted as either an MPEG or MOV.

Don't think I could get out to CA, but this is a very cool offer. You guys have really expanded your exposure lately, should be a great show! Good luck to those applying.

Gee, I would love to do this, but because I am involved with George Barris East Coast , Somebody would call foul if the team I am on won. I just spoke to the East Coast rep for Barris, Andy Perillo, and he said I should go out there for the filming and hang with George. I don't think George gets to involved with the build just the judging. I haven't seen George since last August, when he was in NY for a show. The man has more neat stories about all the famous people he has built cars for. Elvis, Bob Hope, Sonny & Cher, John Wayne and a thousand others.

One of the few new car shows the wife and I watch. It's pretty interesting...

It sounds like a great opportunity, but no way I can get to Cali if I was picked, plus building a '33 that wasn't mine would probably just depress me! LOL.

Looking forward to seeing this episode though!

Hmm, I'd like to claim that exception too.

Big question though - I've never seen Car Warriors (I no longer have TV), but don't most of these shows thrive on interpersonal conflict? Seems to me most of 'em choose to throw clashing personalities together in order to make "good" TV. Is this show different? I'd hate to see FFR customers manipulated into bad behavior.

ok wife said it is ok
    office said it was ok
college professors are ok with it
and finally the Abbott (you can figure that one out!) is ok with it too...

So off to submit an application to see if they will have me...
    painting - NO
engine building - YA I can do that
assembly - I'm good on that one
    customization - nope
wiring - just keep the wires to red and black and we'll be ok
craftsmanship - I can keep it on the road for a LONG time and parts do not fall off - did i mention how well 200mph duct tape works??
speed - of assembly or driving - hummm no tickets yet...

So where is the category for driving... and driving... and driving
And the winner get's to drive it home????

    The Traveler is back!

PS: the fine print... and yes if selected I'll be driving out!

I nominate"Rocket" Rick Anderson....He owns RLA Sheet Metal and built his own street legal challenge car, which he competed in the Challenge Series with us for six years...An amazingly talented person...And he's a nice guy too......Now, to get him to stop building things long enough to make a video. Karen!!!! I OWE you an answer on the coupe project, but I nominate you and rick for the west coast team. I think the east coast team is pretty full, but there is space (I think 3) on the west coast team and you would be the BEST. The guys need someone to crack the whip and manage the effort and I've never met a better manager. Plus IF the cars go against each other in slalom and 0-60 each team might need a good driver and I vote for you! I'll call you later. And I'll talk to Rick A. to see if he can.

ps. Talked to E. Hansen and I am going to call Dan today... Simply the finest craftsmen Ive seen in the community and a real treasure! Dan, can you do it?! If you say yes, you are in period.

Dang. I'll be in Austria the week prior and don't think it would be a good idea to take off the next day to build a car in Cali. Besides I think someone else has vacation time that week and it's nearly impossible to have two people off at one time.

Guys, I am swamped for the next two days and also STOKED with the caliber of applicants for the show. I'll be working with the casting director and taking a STRONG hand in the teams selections. I'll get back to everyone (I missed Ricks call this am ugh!). In the meantime, bang out a video shot of yourself if you can to keep all even-handed. We will have a BLAST on this show, and more importantly, help some kids along the way.

Being selected for something like this will be very cool. So I've come to the decision that I will submit a video.

I wanted to check that if it is submitted by midnight (est.) tomorrow, 7 Oct, it will meet the deadline?

You also mentioned an online application in the video. Is an online application required in addition to the video submission or are the written instructions for a video submission the final guidance? Thanks.

Man, I really want to see this show now, with all these great builders on the teams. Wish I could be there, but I don't quite qualify. Haven't built one yet (although I'm helping someone else on their Mark IV) and I really am not in the same class as any of these others. But I will definitely be looking for this episode and recording it for replay after replay. :P

    Wayne,
If you do this you have to promise us that THE caulk gun will go with you to make a cameo appearance
