I'd love to see a picture of anything that looks like a 289 body - slabside, FIA, or otherwise.

I have this mental image of a guy sneaking around FFR with a camera in his hands opening every door, crawling under racks, taking pics of everything down to the dust bunnies on the floor!

Bill, understood. These are for you brutha!
Up in the shaping bay I found this FIA 289 body mounted on a MKIV frame. Doors looked finished but weren't on the body.
Front view:
Front flair detail:
Door Detail. I checked out the door hinge mount and striker plate placement, and they look the be completed:
Rear fender detail. I shot this while Dave was talking to some guys about the rear treatment on 818 shape #4:

I saw 2 of the 5 scale models! Dave didn't want to show the whole bodies yet because they are still waiting for the other body shapes to be delivered so that they can all be shown in full at one time.
Here is a shot of the Nuphone's model. Dave noted that all of the models are production ready in that once the winner is declared they can take the integrated CAD files and go directly to production tooling.
I really like the lines on this car:
Back in the shop, I got a shot of Xabier's red model, showing the rear diffuser and tail light treatment:

A lot of guys (myself included) are wondering if the 818 is going to be spacious enough for us big guys. These next shots are of me sitting in the cockpit of the full size mockup, which is being built to the scale of the 818 chassis. I sat in a production Subaru WRX seat that was at least 4 inches above where the frame floor will be.
Note: I am 6'6", 320 lbs. True Wookie Size! Also, look at the size of the door opening:
Note that I am sitting in the center of the cabin. That was so I didn't hit the 2x4's holding up the mocked-up windsheild. If I was sitting in a racing seat bolted to the floor of a production818, I believe my head would have been near the top of the rear hoop. This car clearly has the most room of any Factory Five:
Here are some shots of the 818 chassis mule #1. Dave told me that the seat floors are going to be cut out. The early design had the tank under the seats, but FFR is currently designing a custom gas tank:

FInally, here's a cool sight to see. Two challenge series frame were having the fining touches put on in the assembly are, and I saw a third one in welding.
Look closly, and you can see that one of these frames is an IRS car!

I second the comment made by Twinspool that car(s) make a Ferrari look lame!! Also I dont think there is one winner, I think by the looks so far they will all be winners both the cars, FFR and us !!!! IMHO
Funny you should say that. Coincidentally, yesterday on the HD Theater channel, I watched "America's Greatest Race Car." It was about the development of the ****** Daytona Coupe, the product of a relatively small American company, and how it beat Ferrari in the FIA GT championship.
MORE PICS!!! these are looking sweet! dont know about Nuphone's model but personally I never much liked the pics of that even in the design shots...
This is the basic look I was hoping for, European AC 289's retained the FIA body flares and cutback doors, rear exhaust under car exhaust, perhaps a bolt in forward facing rollbar (down tubes behind the seats and not through the body as a period correct option), no hood scoop, drop centered dash, full bumpers, and knock off wire wheels and I'll be in heaven.
Only thing that would really make it stand out to me would be right hand drive ......

Great photos, thanks for keeping me hungry for more!
The funding is ready, just waiting for the final product...
The kart video was cute, you should see what those two speed RM1 karts will do with a wee bit more space! 34 HP with 375-385 lbs including driver!
Thanks for posting all the latest photos..

Dave and I had a great time this weekend! He wanted the gokart videos of the 818 and it just isnt there so sorry about the head-fake. I will tell you guys that as far as having a "man-on-the-inside" Dave was very considerate of the 818 spy photos since we WANT to release everything, BUT its not fair to all the designs if some are released early. We are super close to pulling the wraps off all four (the fifth may not make the deadline) models. The FIA is on deck with the 818 taking the lions share of the resources and time. LAstly, What a great guy Dave Hodgkins is... not just as a great moderator and techie resource for you guys on the forum, but after spending the day Saturday with him I found out he's got a wookie-sized heart too! Thanks Dave for al the great work on the forum. More on the 818 body selection shortly.

Those are magic words - one of those will certainly be my next project. Hopefully the production version will be released around the time that I finally finish my Mk3

Mrmustang had to go to the men's room to catch his breath and clean himself up after reading that. While he's away I'll let you in on a secret, one even the rabbits don't know--- Dave's just saying that to pull Bill's chain Shhhhh.... there he is now.... remember, mums the word.

What I saw of the 818 had my blood pumping, and then I saw the 289 FIA....... HMMMM My buddies 66 289 and 4 speed trans would work quite well in that!
