    Factory Five Paint Color Contest

Help Name the All-New Factory Five Line of Sherwin Williams Paint Colors

The Summit Racing-Factory Five Mk4 project car used two of the new FFR-SW paints.

Factory Five has teamed up with Sherwin Williams to release an all-new line of custom Factory Five paint colors. Lots of folks have seen us at shows or come to our showroom and asked us, “What color did you paint that car?”

We have worked for years with Carl’s Collision here in Massachusetts, a high-end shop that not only does collision repair and paint, but also has an in-house facility where they host training sessions for auto-body technicians. Carl’s uses paint by Sherwin Williams, so our cars are all painted with Sherwin Williams paint as well.

Working directly with both of these companies, we created a line of paints to match the palette used for all of our favorite cars. We’re about ready to release them, but we need some help coming up with the names.

Have a look at photos below and share your name suggestions by filling out the form and hitting submit at the bottom of the page. The winner for each color will be awarded a $50 Factory Five gift certificate!

The contest ends on May 15, 2013. Factory Five Racing will announce the winners and award prizes at it's sole discretion. Void where prohibited.

Click here to submit your name suggestions.

I didn't see any restrictions on the number of times you can enter. I had the same problem. I came up with a new idea after I had already entered, so I conned Alyssa into making a submission so I could incorporate my new idea. Of course, she's only 17 so I hope there's not an age problem.

The Factory Five-Sherwin Williams Paint Line Naming Contest ends next week, so if you haven't submitted your ideas for the color names, you'd better hurry! We've had a bunch of great entries so far, and the decision making process will be tough. Here's the link with more details - http://bit.ly/Xkpxou.

We have a lot of submissions to go through and great names to select from so I'm not positive on when we'll be announcing the winners, but we will contact the winners directly - probably by e-mail - and post them on FFR's webiste, the forum, Facebook, etc.

The crew here has been working on picking the names over the past few weeks to narrow the choices down (there was a lot of great names to pick from). I think we are very close to being ready to announce the winners. Don't worry - we haven't forgotten.

    Hi everyone,

We've picked the final colors (and names) and submitted them to Sherwin Williams. It's a big company and they don't move as quickly as we do, but I believe we'll have the final names and awards before SEMA.

That sounds like a fun idea! If we don't hear back from Sherwin Williams soon, we'll post all of the submissions as there's some hilarious suggestions.

The trouble with the social media is that these names have to be vetted against trademarks and existing paint names and related names making general submissions and their publicity a real challenge to balance. Still, once the names are released, we're going to try to make a big deal out of it on the roll out and have some fun.

Paint names and color "trade dress" issues are a new arm of copyright law, and litigation over these issues is quite profitable- for the lawyers. For example, a few years ago Revlon and Clinique had the exact same name for a lipstick color. (They were different shades) The lawyers fees to solve this so-called problem were 50 times higher then all the lipstick sold with that particular name by both companies.

Just my "swag", i'll bet it will be 2014 before we hear anything definitive, based on the 818 rollout, then SEMA, followed by Thanksgiving and Chrismas, and the normal glacial pace that the lawyers for Sherwin -Williams and FFR move things along.
