I finished up most my interior alum work. On to the body. The sides and rear went on very easy. I have trouble with the front fenders and hood/bonnet. I don't know if the fenders go on top of the windsheild frame or under. It seems they should go under but then the hood don't fit worth a damn. Any help would be appreciated.
Do you have a picture of the front fender thing on top or under windshield frame you mentioned on another thread?

Tom, if you haven't already, I would try to fit on your rear bonnets and make sure your quarters are were you want them. I am pretty sure the fenders go under, but I have not gotten the windshield frame in yet. The rear small bonnet will have a gap and you will notice it is a matter of pushing the rear section in. some tweaking will be needed, with the hood pins and or whatever you choose to do to keep that line, or go Erik's route. I am coming up with a brace setup along with some body triming and re-glassing to make the lines even. This is why Erik made his one piece.
The 5/8 that they recommend for front bottom of rocker is close to were they should sit but mike Everson and I had to space it out 3/4 for me and 1" for mike so get good lines on doors fenders and rear sections

Well it has been an interested week or so. Looks like I have my 33 sold. A guy wants to buy it after seeing it at the Turkey rod run in Daytona. I was at Road Atlanta having fun with MX-5's at Skip Barber. Great track and fun to knock off over 20 years of rust racing there. Track has changed some but still rewarding to drive fast. I am going to try to work on the 818 some next week. I have a few things the customer wants on the 33 to finish up. Body work is always challegeing.

Well I just had to try my rear parts on the car. The AMR intercooler has to be mounted further back and lower. I am going to mount it under the rear hatch mesh and add a electric fan to blow cool ducted air over it. Some brackets and hoses will do the job. If I had to do this over a N/A donor would have been used. This turbo engine could be trouble in the wrong hands IMO. I found a Hyundai spoiler in the bone yard for 25 bucks. It even had a third brake light. I think it looks good on the back. I am sure some will not like it, but WTH I am going for it. IMO it follows the rear lines well and looks cool. I think I will use black mesh to cover the gaps behind the seat to the rear hatch behind the rollbar.

You're making great progress Tom!

Tom, I like the wing! What model Hyundai did you get it off of?
Also, in regards to the intercooler, I had a similar idea. I'd love to see what you come up with. One thought I had, though, is that the existing rear hatch mesh is too far rearward. And, of course, it's attached to the trunk lid, which further complicates it. What about an opening further forward, on the engine bay portion (not the trunk lid)? Would that work?
I like the wing. The shape works and the wiring will never be noticed if someone looks at the 818 from the left front!

I have been working on the body the last 2 days. The doors went on easy IMO. The front fenders, front nose and front hood don't line up worth a **** to my windshield no matter where I move it. I am having my body/ painter guy come over tomorrow to try to help me out with it. I can see how this kit is 10 K less than the rest. But such allowances must be made IMO. I think when it is done it will be a cool looking car and most defintely have superb performance.

I trimmed the ends of my windshield to allow the hood to sit flush. I had more trouble in the back.. Lol.. I will take picture when I get back to the house later this week.. I think I cut about 1/4 off the end of the windshield to get it lay in there. The windshield needs to go as far down and back as possible

At least you have somewhere to mount the doors...... The 818R has NO provisions for the doors.

Success!!! Chris my body/Paint guy came over and we pushed the windshield back as far as we could like Wayne had suggested. Now with some trimming and fab up 2 brackets for the back top of the fenders the hood fits good on top of the windshield frame. I have to trim the front of the doors as well. I post pics when I get all this done.
Looking REALLY good! I like the wing too.

Wallace you're kicking butt. Love the spoiler. I saw one the other day in my work parking garage and I must have it. However its for the new Audi TT-RS and the only inexpensive version comes straight from China/Hong Kong and I think it's too much of a gamble. It is sweet though!
I'm probably going to bribe a few guys to come out to the West to help with my body. It's amazing how much faster it goes when you have three warped heads working on body panels. Two will usually cancel each other out but that third guy in the rotation always seems to figure out how it fits. Last time it was myself, Stack, and Jeff Miller. For those interested, I live close to Disneyland and Legoland, AND the weather is usually great here in January!
Well to get back to my Build thread I have about 95% of the body work done. I am happy with how it is progressing now. I do have to massage stuff to get the fit I want. But to me that is 1/2 the fun. Hopefully off to paint by Jan. 2nd.
I made rear fender braces at the top. It helped with the fit to the windshield IMO.

I can't wait until I'm done with my wiring to get started on body stuff. My problem is if that if I know I can do something better I don't want to accept anything less.

My turbo pipes and hoses came in from HPS. I was able to mock up my intercooler and will start on my intercooler fan shroud next. I will be using a electric fan to blow cold air over my intercooler.

That is what I am planning to do, to extract hot air in my case, but the concept is the same. Nice one.

Nice... Like this idea a lot. Seems that a trunk not meant to be.
That looks good. I like it!
For your consideration....Whenever a gas (air for us) is compressed, It causes a rise in the temperature of the gas...Gee...that is why there is an intercooler after the turbo...
It would be better to have the fan suck the cold air through the intercooler.
Frankly, i have no idea what the temperature rise due to your fan will be...but in principle it is better to suck air through the IC

I doubt there will be much compression or heat buildup from this fan, IMO. FFR had heat soak problems with the R at Watkins Glen. I doubt very much air would flow backwards through the intercooler IMO. Some sort of forward facing scoop like the WRX could work also. It is just a idea I came up with and will give it a try. I am not looking to get record HP or TQ ratings, just build a differant mouse trap so to speak. LOL.

After finishing up my intercooler shroud I ran the fan for 20 minutes. Less than one tenth of degree change top to bottom. So much for that deal. I also got my fenderwell aluminum done front and back. I am waiting on my inner door panels then it is off to get painted.

Thanks for the wheel well photos. It's nice to see the future!
Have you tried reversing the fan so it blows air up and out? It would be nice to see if it makes a difference.

I was also considering a flexalite fan, can you give more details about the fan?
Ah, OK? Thanks for the explanation. I don't think it possible for a simple fan to actually compress air [enough for it to heat up], so performing a test for that completely escaped me!
I'm planning on keeping the washer motor, and running water spray to the intercooler. That's proven to work.
