Any non LS variant GTM'S out there? Plus new member intro.
Hey everyone, new to the group. Phoenix area.
Ordered my GTM a few weeks ago, April 27th delivery date. Took advantage of the $2500 off accessories option.
I've worked in the automotive industry in some form or function since late 01. Just parted out a relatively high powered big turbo 2jz car, sold a project car I really hadn't even started on, and currently selling my 96 Viper, to at least mostly fund my GTM project.
Never satisfied with normal, I've decided to go a little different route with my GTM. Ive got a Tesla performance rwd drive unit (the 536 hp version), a controller for it and I'm about to pull the trigger on a pair of Chevy Volt battery packs. Will definitely be interesting trying to modify stuff to make it work but I think it'll be worth it. Chances are weight will end up a few hundred pounds more than a "normal" GTM, but I also hope to spread the weight forward a bit.

Sounds like cool project! Keep us posted on your progress....and welcome to the forum!

Some high school or college class did an electric GTM years ago, but it was more of an endurance/mpg-e car than a performance car.

Ironically Progressive Insurance is paying for this build too, I just have to spend 40 hours a week with them to get the money.

Regarding the above mentioned car built by high school students, I own the car now, and have been in the process of building it for the last 3 years. It almost done! I bought it as a striped down roller, with no dash or other interior, drivetrain, etc. All I can say is it was poorly built, and it has taken a lot of time and money to sort it out. Should be done in a few months (5-19). Thanks to all on this forum, and to Beerman for selling me a dash!

That's kinda crazy. I'm sure they cared little to nothing about how the car truly looked or ran, focus being on mpg.
Here's a quick youtube video update of my "build" that hasn't even started yet.

If you consider LQ engines a "variant", then yes!
An electric GTM would be rare and cool; I'll definitely follow this build.
