Installation of 06-07 OEM center console - Success!

I took on the challenge of installing the oem center console from my 06 STI donor. Have a look. Its a bit of a pain to work things out and i wouldve done things differently the second time, but this is good for now.

Really-really nice! If I was doing an S-car I would definitely do something like this. Personally, the super-squared off interior panels always screamed "kit car" to me. This really ups the quality. Might be nice to see other folks adapt different OEM centers now that you've shown the example. Well done.

Looks nice. What would you do differently?

Just the way i would approach the install. Which pieces i would trim to fit and how i would secure it in place. Some of the fitment and alignment makes it seam like it was made for it tho. Im all about the details and some things just bother me is all.

No, it rides and secures to it.

I have not tried aligning them yet. Ill probably do that as one of the last things.

Man, I wish I'd thought to keep the console from my donor. This looks great.

I doubt there's room for donor seats though. It was awfully tight even with the kit tunnel installed on mine.

I will be using the donor STI blue seats. They fit snuggly but with no issue. I even kept the oem slides.

One more part to save from the donor! I like the result, why reinvent the wheel? Great job.
My 03 forester's console looks the same from the shifter back.

Im looking to get it registered before i do any rear end modifications. I will make the scoops tho. Contemplating on whether or not i would make a mold to sell them tho

Im leaning bolt on due to saving me from redoing the whole body to make it blend in. Once im ready to paint, they will be made as one piece. I will be approx 1.5" wider in rear and approx 1" in front

Its a modified ffr unit. Its not as crisp as i would like it but ill wait until i put a few hundred miles on it before making a switch to more than likely the MR2 setup

I'd like to use an STI but don't want to widen fenders. Are there off-the-shelf rims that correct this offset or is the offset too much?

The wide fenders are not a result of the STI components. The 10.5" rims and 295's are what makes that happen. You can easily get rims that clear the fenders.

Correct. About a half inch per side. Im not sure if FFR provides new axles with their 6speed kit now.

The photos do a bad job of showing actual color but there is a distinguishable color difference between the gray console and black dash. A wrap may be in the future.

On my classic '71 Buick GS, I repainted some 30+ year old plastic seat backs, kick panels, etc, some refreshing the faded black, some changing color from brown to black, and all I did was clean them well with dish soap and water, thoroughly dry, cleaned with alcohol, and sprayed on the SEM plastic paint from the rattle can. Lasted fine for over a decade of abuse, and had no peeling or anything.

If anything, the chemical paint formulations must be even better today. I am wondering if all the prep mentioned in that thread is really required if you use the correct paint and common sense.

Looks great. I am doing the same with my 04. Do you have photos of the modification to the emergency brake fixation since it has to tilt down to clear the console and be slightly off the center line?
