I searched but did not see any related questions. For the driver's side footbox, the engine side panel butts up against the 4 inch frame. How is this secured? Is it just caulked along the frame?

Yes, but once its all riveted in on the other sides, its very solid and cannot move. Put some sound deadner over it and should be good to go.

I'm thinking about running a length of self-adhesive foam rubber weatherstrip along this edge, and probably trimming it a bit narrower once in. It'll help seal, and provide a "backer" for a nice bead of caulking/sealant.

I'd make a 1" wide strip and bend it to attach the lower panel to the 4" tube if that panel doesn't have a bend in it already.
I also replaced the front lower footbox panels with .100 panels instead of the .040 panels. They feel much sturdier under my feet that way with no chance of oil-canning.

I don't have your sheet metal skills. I saw your panel finish post. I'm lucky to scotch brite and sharkhide the panels.
I sealed the gaps in my driver and passenger foot boxes with Dynatron 550 Auto Seam Sealer (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It goes on like silicon, but dries nice and firm. You can seal gaps 1/8"-3/16" wide; it's definitely strong enough to seal the gap you've shown in the picture (which is WAY better than my gap from a kit delivered in 2015!). Use painter's tape to keep it from getting all over and making a mess.

I second what John said...automotive seam sealer. It comes in black and blends in with the black frame. Tape is a great idea, lay a generous amount in that seam and finger it in. Wear gloves.
