The Certificate of Origin (COO) is for the chassis and has nothing to do with the engine. The certificate is made for the original purchaser who took possession of the chassis from the manufacturer. It should have the chassis number on it that matches the chassis that will someday need to get a VIN and be titled. What is your question? We certainly don't need to see the COO to answer most questions.

First of all Thank you for help. I mentioned the engine because it is mentioned on the COO in question , infact below the "series or model " line there is : RF E6SE FORD 302 EFI.
for the rest the COO dated 1995 states ROADSTER 2 DOOR and below the line with chassis number FFR 21..K there is the VIN 6E66C...... , this VIN is on a aluminium tag placed on frame, odd enough there is no FFR tag nowhere on the car but a (reproduction) Shelby Tag.. all this made me write here on this valuable forum.

just to be straight, I got some pictures of this car but I'm not sure everything is clear here , so before to go to see it I need to get more infos .

It sounds more like a title document than a COO or MSO. But, this is from the very early days of FFR, so I could be wrong. What state is the car in? That can also help with specific questions. Are you trying to verify the car or buy/sell it? There should be a serial number on the frame that matches the number on the COO. I'm not sure where that would be on the early cars, but on mine it's on the horizontal bar that the steering pillow bushing mounts to (the 2" square tube that runs behind the dash).

    The area circled in red:

Wow! It's getting the world tour. Perhaps take a picture of the document, blur or line out the personal information and post it. Or send me a PM (Private Message) with your e-mail and I can get a copy from you that way and post it for you since you may not have enough posts to do it yourself yet.

I'd have to see the document. A COO should not have a VIN or engine information if it's from Factory Five since they are not manufacturing completed vehicles. It may be a title document or other document used to import the car onto Italy from the U.S. that has information on it that identifies the vehicle for that purpose.

Unrelated question: Might there be a concern if my COO is made out to a slightly different name than my legal name? Say Jerry vs Gerald, for example. I've always registered cars in my legal name since it matches my license. If the COO is made out in my informal name, do you think DMV (PA) would have a problem with that? Could/should I title it under the version on the COO or my license?

Welcome to the forum. Full rights extended.

FYI the chassis number on MKI and MKII's is NOT in the cockpit, but INSIDE the 2x3 bulkhead tube behind the driver.

Roberto contacted me by PM and here is the Factory Five Racing Certificate of Origin he's describing:

I am still not sure what specific questions he has, but wanted to get this up for folks to see as he comes back with questions.

Also, here is a link he sent with some pictures of the car: https://imgur.com/a/ZOZUtHq

quick call to FFR should resolve this issue. Mine had no reference to cys, hp, engine, etc. I wonder if it has been altered or if was done for export this way by FFR.

Chatting with Roberto via PM, he is simply researching the car for someone else, and isn't the owner. The car was last titled in Iowa in 2017. The previous owner restored it and then it was exported to Italy.

Just looking over what I can see in the photos, it appears to be the car that is documented with the VIN tag on the car matching the COO serial number and the VIN on the title. I'll let Roberto come back with any specific questions, but I don't see anything strange with the documents.

    David ,

is the chassis number on MKI and MKII's easy to reach with a smartphone to get pictures or there is something to take off? So I can get someone near the car to try to make some photos. Thanks

I want to say thank you again for the time and the helpful hints you gave me, this is something that I really appreciated.
As said in total honestly ,in this moment I have no plan to search a car... I mean another car, and the field of kitcars and replicas is still a misterious world for me, anyway it seems you guys with FFR cars are Number One !

Good question. I'm not sure how PA would handle it, but in Maryland mine was titled as called out on the COO. The clerk did not ask to see my drivers license at all. I guess it depends on the person doing the paperwork behind the counter. I do remember reading that FFR will not reissue a COO under any circumstances. Worse case, I would get it titled as called out on the COO and then worry about name change/correction after being titled.
    Good luck!

I had heard that FFR would not reissue it also. Unless told otherwise I'll fill out the paperwork under the name on the COO. I've had other documents that needed to be notarized and it wasn't a problem that my ID did not match the name exactly. As long as it's not a totally unrelated name I would think a reasonable person would consider a common name & formal name a match. As long as it get's titled I wouldn't worry about a correction later. I just wouldn't want a months-long hold up at that time when I'm going to be really eager to get it on the road.
    Thanks.

Roberto sent a couple of pictures of the chassis number on the car. Can anyone offer an opinion of if this looks legit for an early MK1? Seems like it's in the right location per Dave H's comment in an earlier post.

    Thank you Dave,

Unfortunately these are not common stampings like VINs we use to see on early Mustangs or the GM engine suffix codes..maybe the answer here could be given only from the FFR itself.. anyway any hint or comment is appreciated!

I’ve always known the number on the earlier cars to be just as David H. said; INSIDE the tube on the driver’s and always welded just in from the open end rather than stamped as Roberto’s photo indicates.
