Picture upload issues - anyone else?

Good morning all. I'm trying to upload a picture to post a question to the forum and it's just not working. Tried two different browsers and a few different ways to add (directly, vs via album), but no luck. Anyone else, or just me?

    jk,
Yeah me too for a month or more. PMs have not been replied too.
Looking at FFR posts I think creating an album to transfer from may help. I do not need another album.
If that posting option is no longer functional I would remove it.

While I am ranting, I do not see a method of deleting a "For Sale" post when the item is sold. That makes searching "For Sale" cumbersome

(Edited to add) If you host the image elsewhere, like imgur, then you can post images with the [img] tag.

Good grief, there is another post already up about this. When you reply or start a post, click on the ICON that looks like a PICTURE FRAME. drag your photo to that and click insert.

You can easily upload from almost anywhere. Your computer, cloud, photo sites, etc. In the quick reply box, put your cursor over the icons above the box. The third one from the right will say "insert image" when you hover over it. Click it. A pop up appears for choosing the location. Click on "from computer" or "from URL". Navigate to the photo you want to upload, select it, click open and it takes you back to the same popup. Click "upload file". Be patient here. It looks like nothing is happening but in a couple of seconds the upload will take place and some info will appear in your post. Leave the cursor where it is and click on the icon above the quick reply box that is furthest to the left. The photo info will be replaced with a thumbnail. You can leave it like that or double click on it and a popup will appear and you can choose "large" to make it a full size embedded photo.

I've noticed the 'Choose Files' button from the 'Computer' tab on the Insert Image dialog box disappears from time to time, only to come back an hour or two later. I've also noticed that if I upload more than 3 images to a post at one time, they don't upload. It acts like it's going to, but they don't actually get attached to the post. So, I limit my upload to 2 or 3 images at a time, and just go through the process a couple of times until I have all the images attached to a post that I want. I think the max per post is 8 images.

It occurs to me Rich that no one enjoys your sarcasm as much as you do. A professional would characterize your comments as passive aggressive but not amusing.
Imagine that others here (like you and myself) have been attaching photos to posts for years and arbitrarily it stopped working. Suggested alternatives also do not work. WWJD? I mean, what would Rich do? Predictably he would offer sarcasm but nothing of value.

On the topic of classifieds, how would your suggestion work for BaT, Ebay, Craigslist, Facebook or Real Estate listings? The objective is not to stop offers and inquiries, it is to unclutter For Sale Posts to make searching less arduous. Think about it.

Sadly, you're wasting your breath. I've tried, it doesn't help. He says he's just short on words. Some defend him as a sweetheart, but we know the truth.

Guys I upload pics all the time using the gallery. There are size restrictions. Before uploading I downsize my pics to a max 2000x2000 pixels and I never have rotation or upload issues.

Try using THIS THREAD that is stickied in the Intros forum.

I don't think you can attach photos to PMs, unless you attach from a URL.

I use my own gallery on this forum to upload pics. I have a local image resizer to make it quicker. For some reason cell phones need to take HUGE pictures. I'll never understand why. I've even got my phone taking the smallest possible pics. They're still HUGE.

I'll take the photos off my phone and onto my laptop, reduce their file size, then upload them to My Gallery. Then link them as needed wherever I want to put them. They also ways show up just right, plenty large, and orientated correctly.

And now I know - "upload files" is a button even though it doesn't look like one. Thanks!

    Dave,
I tried your suggestion this morning on an 818 thread. My photo is 640 X 480 and it did not load. I will try it here too.

Here's my method - works every time. I hate having to click on thumbnails to view an image in someone's post - I much prefer the images to be embedded directly into the post. So for my method I use the following. This also allows me to add annotations/arrows/etc to the pictures.
    1. I usually take photos w/ my cell phone (huge file size and resolution) which aren't great to embed here natively because they are too big.
    2. My cell is linked to Google Photos so they automatically upload to the cloud.
    3. I then go into Google Photos on my browser, right click on the image and copy it.
    4. In PowerPoint, paste this image (still high resolution)
    5. In PowerPoint, add any annotations, then take a screen shot of the (Win+SHIFT+S on a PC) and paste it into a PowerPoint on top of the original image --> the pasted images is at a much lower resolution than the original and this works a lot better as an embedded image.
    6. Still in PowerPoint, Right-click on the pasted image --> Save as picture --> save it as JPEG or PNG (either works). This process basically just resizes the image to a size that is great for the forum (vs the original cell phone resolution which is too big).
    7. Then I just upload this new image to my gallery on the forum. You can only upload 5 images at a time in the interface.
    8. In your gallery, go to the photo and copy the "BB Code" from the image (see below) and paste that into my post.

This process works every time and the size is good for viewing on desktop or mobile without having to click a thumbnail.

The only reason I prefer to upload photos directly to the forum vs. inserting a URL link (from Google Photos for example) is because the forum is flooded with "missing" images from cloud photo services which are no longer maintained by the original user. So while you might "think" you will never get rid of that cloud service, in reality it happens all the time. Then your old posts are just littered with a bunch of "image not available" pics which doesn't help anybody.

    Lots of good information here.

Why not just use XenForo software that is much more user friendly?

    Cost??

Have never heard of it - maybe its a good option for some....but why pay for a service when I can do everything for free in a matter of seconds. And Google Photos + PowerPoint doesn't get much easier then that. It literally takes less than 1 minute for me to do the process I described above (including adding annotations to the pics). I just can't easily do it from my phone, but I don't usually post from my phone anyway.

Its a Forum Platform Software, not something a user would purchase/install but rather FF Forum Admins would replace the existing, very dated, forum software.

I did a fair amount of technical work helping another forum move from "host it myself" (licensed) vBulletin (same as this forum) to vBulletin Cloud.

After the initial migration pains, it ended up being a great move -- posting images into the forum is simply painless, drag'n'drop.

Or like when Photobucket held everyone's images hostage? Yea, how'd that work out for them...

At least you can still kinda see the pics around the huge watermark.

This forum is definitely showing it's age in terms of functionality and usability. It would be great to give it a nice upgrade, especially now that the MkV is out and may attract some new folks. What would be even better is if there was a mobile-friendly app for the forum.
