If it was a dino oil, I would be a little concerned about those temps, but for Mobil 1 synthetic, 260F to 290F is fine. You might want to consider switching to 5W-30W or 10W-30W. It may reduce the oil temperature. Higher viscocity oil does make the pump/engine work a bit harder.

My Type 65 Coupe: Ordered May 27, 2021. Arrived November 19, 2021.
I would like to treat my gas pedal as a binary operator. It would be nice to get the cooperation of everyone in front of me.

Last page has clearances - this for a 363, but I suspect the 302 is the same. I suspect you can get the same pdf for your block part number. Ford recommends 10w30 or 10w40.

Coupe-R has a Ford Performance 363 mated to a TKX, 18084.
Many details on my Coupe-R are different from a typical Coupe build because mine is not street legal, race only.
289 has a BP 302 mated to a TKX 18084.

I have a Boss 427 that's been bored and stroked to 460. It is a street car and not a racer. I broke a valve at the end of last season and the cause was a lifter that gauled and froze in the open position. I was using Moble 1 5w-30 without an oil cooler. My builder is telling me to use 10W-30 with an oil cooler or 10W-40/20W-50 without a cooler.

Lewma,
Saw the vents on your Google photos album. Looks nice. Do you have the part numbers of the vents you used?
Thanks

Just took the car out for a quick run in-between rain showers. Didn't get on a highway but did a couple of miles on back roads 50-60mph. It was a little cooler this weekend than last but IAT was sitting high 70s. Ambient low 60s. Engine bay still heats up like an oven when the car is sitting still but starts to cool down when running. This time, with the front vent, then the 2 smaller vents open, at 55mph, the bay was down to 109F and was still dropping until I ran out of road. Previously it was holding at 130F.
I'll try to get on a highway to see what happens at higher speeds.

Mark,
Did you still have the hood to cowl seal during your testing?
Greg
Yes. I wanted to change one variable at a time. Once I've been down the highway a couple of times to get an idea of what the vents are doing, ill remove a section of the seal to see if that also helps
I'm considering drilling a couple of holes in the aluminum in front of the radiator to help when sitting stationary in traffic with the fan blowing

Another 75miles on the car today, 50 of those highway miles. Sun was out, warmer than yesterday. At 65mph+ it seems like the vents really have an effect. They cool the bay from 140F down to 110F within a couple of minutes. At 85mph I think the lowest I saw was 107F with ECT around 192F. The vents seem to be less effective below 60mph.
The flexalite fan seems to be a worthwhile upgrade. Quieter than the stock fan and cools the engine from 200F down to 194F very easily when sitting at lights.
Next tests:
- Remove a section of the hood seal under the windshield to see if that has any effect in cooling the bay
- Drill a few 1.5" holes in the aluminum behind the fan to see if that can contribute to cooling the bay when sitting in traffic and the fan blowing. Did notice that my intake temps were up around 110F when sitting still.

Brent I put 1 4" soffit vent in the forward scoop. I planned on putting the 3" vents on the smaller scoops under the windshield but the vents were too deep. I have 3" holes under the vents which I plan on covering with mesh
