My name is Rick Miller from Ferndale, WA I posted earlier a introduction but thought I'd start a new build thread to document the progress now that I know serial number 8442 is on it's way. I made the trip out to Wareham on Friday to take the tour and see the MK4 before it ships via Stewart this next week. Thanks Dan for the great tour of the place and for answering all my questions.
Figured I could start posting some of the progress made since ordering the kit on August 22nd. Here are the details of the Complete kit order.
Powder coated Chassis
Cutouts
3-Link 3.73
11.65 rear brake kit, Carry on baggage so I could complete the rearend and don't want to have to do that again!
4 into 1 headers
Stainless side pipes
Heater/defroster
Wipers
Chrome Roll bar
15in Halibrand w/Goodyear Billboards
Vintage Gauges
Leather seats
Visors
Wind wings
331 stroker
Tremec T5
Rearend Completed this weekend Donor from a 1990 5.0 LX Mustang I purchased for the roller block, Tremec T5 and the rearend. Powder coated housing, Rebuilt the limited slip diff with new clutch pack and installed 3.73 gears. Summit 28 spline axles, new bearings, seals and dressed it up with a Ford Racing Diff cover.
I'm glad I still have a little time before I get my kit. I have a project going on in my garage that I have to finish first. I'm putting power steering in my sand rail and getting it ready for this season. Should be out of the garage this week though.

I'm thinking we should be getting a call from Stewart in the next couple days. Dan said the driver will contact before he leaves their loading dock and then again 24hrs. prior to delivery. I see that Sand Rail getting pushed out of the Garage soon.
Here are some pictures of the 331 Stroker build. Started as a 1990 roller block .030 over. Bored and Honed with deck Plates. Decked to .003 clearance. Scat internals with the Mahle pistons which don't have the oil ring passing through the wrist pin bore. with 58cc AFR 185 heads should be about 10.4:1 compression. You see that the windage tray had to be modified to accept the Cobra T-Pan. More specs as I update pictures or just ask.
My name is David Cashio, I admire your start. Looking forward to following your build. My MK4 was due for 10/4/14 and almost identical to yours. Im using the coyote powerplant instead. Are you planning any modifications or alterations? Please keep us informed.

Hi David, My first build so I'm going to keep it pretty simple. Kinda old school appearance is my liking. was going to do the glove box but Washington state requires defrosters so I'm installing the heater kit in place of the glove box. I'm doing the Breeze front battery box mount and their upper and lower radiator hoses. Fortes mechanical throttle linkage and his drive shaft loop. as far as modifications just the rear quick jack setup. Good luck with your build I took this picture last Friday at FFR of the Coyote motor. clean install. Coyote.JPG
Some updates to the 331 build. Camshaft is a Comp Cams XE282HR duration @ .050 int. 232 exh. 240 Lift int. .565 exh. .574 lobe separation 112 Heads are AFR 185 with 58cc combustion chambers, Comp cams roller tip 1.6 rockers and Ford racing push rods.
Rick, I noticed torque plates on your block, are you doing your own machine work? By the way, that is one sweet lookin engine. I called ff today they are loading my car, Stewart had two trucks there. Jay told me mine was first on the truck, last to be delivered. Can't wait.....

Machine work was done locally by a friend of mine that has been doing Ford stuff for 30 years. I bet I saw your roadster on the rack last Friday while I was there. Jolene said yesterday mine would be picked up Thursday and sent to Phoenix before going on the West coast crane truck. maybe it snuck on today's load. Where are you located?
stacked like cord wood. A truck was there last Thursday and took 6 cars away photo 1.JPG

Had a little time the past few days to install the intake which is a an original 1965 S1MS-9424A Cobra Intake and sort out the pulley mess. Trying to stay close to original look I couldn't find any combination to fit 1965 pulleys to the late model driver side inlet water pump. Going to paint these aluminum pulley black to match the Hipo Alternator pulley. Will see how the Holley 750 DP Mech Sec. runs on the chassis dyno, may need to down size. Couple more evenings and will have the engine done and pushed to side with the rearend and transmission.
One of the last Mark II's, FFR complete date 5/8/04, delivery date 5/23/04, donor-'93 Mustang GT. Yes, that is me in my Avatar. Paint done by Da Bat! It looks killer! Drive it like you stole it...
Great news!
Got the call that the Goodyear Billboards are back in stock at the N. CA Vendor and shipping today. Just need a set of wheels and a chassis to mount them on. Thinking that FFR 8442 is probably staying warm in the Phoenix Stewart warehouse over the weekend and should depart soon for a West coast ride up I-5
Let me know if it's stuffed up front of the trailer when they make delivery of 8439 to Wilmington, CA Rod

Very nice looking engine. Nice old school look. I wonder how that intake flows compared to a modern one?
There was no vacuum advance on a HiPo, if you want to get technical about the looks. You probably already know that though.
Chris
I'll leave some HP on the table with this intake. Believe me I had to close my eyes when I layed the Intake gaskets to the heads then to the intake. I found a article awhile back when I acquired this original piece and they flow tested it with new technology and it wasn't to bad. if I need some extra HP I'll order up a Victor Jr. I have a 1965 Hipo dual point but have to draw the line somewhere. If I had a center pivot Carb to go with the setup then I'd have to go original all the way

Rick,
I'm in Baton Rouge. Jim from Stewart called yesterday and told me he'll be here Thursday ( tomorrow ) at noon with my car. I can't sleep! Did you get yours yet?

I called Jolene and made payment on Monday and it was passing Oklahoma enroute to Phoenix warehouse then transfer to crane truck. Unless the driver is crossing into British Columbia I'm probably the last in the trailer. I'm traveling in CA and the kid said that when he got home from School yesterday there was a stack of Goodyear Billboards sitting at the front door. Good luck with your build and post pictures of it's arrival

Cashiocons...I just took a peek at your photo and realized that your driver is the same one who delivered my kit back in June! I think he poses for this particular shot because he is in the same position in the photo I took...IMG_20140529_103056_150.jpg
Rick, I see you have your body buck ready, did you use plans from ff manual? I just cut plywood panels this eve. Your braces look different, can you post a pick so I can copy it? Did you get your kit yet? Thanks

Hi David
I did use the plans from the FFR Manual for cutting the ends then winged it from there with what 2x4's I had in the shop. The intent is to throw a sheet of plywood or OSB in the bottom for storage after the body is on it. Casters were $4 at HF

Nothing to report on the build this week as I'm still waiting for the call from Stewart to say they are swinging by the house. Work took me to Monterey for the day yesterday and I stopped by Laguna Seca for a visit. although closed for the season there's a great gift shop and was able to navigate around track. There was a Skip Barber driving school going on
Hey Rick, I got a call yesterday from their driver. His truck broke down in Phoenix. He won't be here today with my delivery. Tomorrow. CRAP!!! Another day?!!! CRAP!!!
I guess I will sweep out the garage again. LOL.
