I know it means 818kg, about 1800lbs. But how to express that in terms I can understand?
1800lbs is approximately 12 kegs of beer. I can see that and it looks delicious.
But how much car do you get for 1800lbs?
(I'm sorry this is a little hard to read, the forum won't allow me to make it pretty)
I know the list is rather arbitrary and I threw in a couple of silly cars just for fun, but this post does have a few points.Code:Curb Manufacturer Model HP Year Price Link Weight (2011 US dollars) 1212 Caterham Roadsport 170-210 2011 40489 http://www.uscaterham.com/showroom/roadsport.html 1290 Lotus Elan 100 1962 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=94424 1350 Ariel Atom 3 200 2011 49980 http://www.arielatom.com/specs/atom-3-specs 1543 Austin-Healey Sprite 46 1961 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=55528 1543 Ford Fiesta 40 1979 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=42086 1631 MG Midget 71 1974 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=63668 1731 TVR Vixen 89 1966 27494 http://auto-specs.zercustoms.com/T/TVR/1966-tvr-vixen-specifications.html 1775 Ford Escort 83 1972 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=86515 1786 Saab Sonett III 75 1970 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=34144 1786 Volkswagen GTI 108 1976 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=43054 1786 Peugot 205 GT 80 1983 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=40095 1797 Triumph Spitfire 71 1975 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=29469 1808 Smart Pure Coupe 70 2011 12490 http://www.smartusa.com/models/pure-coupe/specifications.aspx 1808 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia 34 1963 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=128524 1819 Yugo GV 55 1985 8166 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zastava_Koral 1862 Toyota iQ 67 2011 16070 http://www.toyota-europe.com/cars/new_cars/iq/fullspecs.aspx 1890 Honda CRX Si 91 1985 http://kumo.swcp.com/synth/crx/specs.html 1940 Fiat X1/9 74 1972 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=42020 1980 Datsun Roadster 2000 135 1969 http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/1967-datsun-roadster-article.html 1980 Ferrari Dino 206 160 1968 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dino_(automobile) 2010 Lotus Elise R 189 2011 47250 http://www.lotuscars.com/en/lotus-elise-specification
- It's been a long time since there was a fun, streetable 1800lb car for sale. (The median year of manufacture on this list is 1975*)
- The CRX and 205GT must have been made out of fairy dust and unicorn farts, because they are amazingly light. Yet they have metal bodies, glass, and full interiors. Wow.
- 225hp in a 1800lb car has not been done by any sane manufacturer.
- Lightweight almost always means older. If the car is modern and light weight, it is expensive.
- The cars we think of as light are pigs. Some examples in the >2000lb club:
- MGB
- RX-7
- 240Z
- Miata
- 914
Are you excited yet?
*yes, and that number is completely arbitrary. If I dropped the iQ and the Smart and chose an older Caterham, Atom, or Elise model, I could manipulate that number down a bit. But I'm just having fun.
