    another new member

Well been here on and off since the 818 was first announced and the past 5 months or so just doing a ton of reading and research. well finally got around to making an account and just wanted to say hi to everyone and just like everyone else here I can't wait for this to be released. Coming from the Evo world myself so going to a RWD is all new to me lol. Hope it all turns out the way we want it and the sooner the better.

Well I plan on putting in a decent amount of power into it. Take it to the track and as well as my daily driver and just have fun with it. I read one post talking about the gearing and people not needing a transmission to go past 140 and lol I'm definitely gonna need more than that. I already reach 155 in the EVO at Fontana speedway so I got look into gear ratios for the wrx transmission. Other than that I really hope we got some 3rd parties coming out with options for it like hard top and bumpers.

lol I am.... 140 what's that, 160-180 would be cool. There are different gear sets for the 5spd, but to get above like 160 will interesting. I gotta do some research on the top speed in relation to the all the gear sets. I know the 6spd will get you 162 ish lol, how i know well. With a taller 6 you will hit 175+.

lol none that i am convicted of

as for the 140 yea that's what i read but yea i don't think it's right. i know the stock final gearing the evo 5 speed tops at 162 at 7k rpm but rebuilds you could go as high as 196 with a 3.73 final gear. still looking for something like that with the wrx 5 speed

haven't been to buttonwillow yet but willow springs i think it was around 110 or so. very fun track with lots of turns but kills your brake pads haha

I will definitely be looking at taller gears for my 818. I don't have a top speed in mind. But i want 1st and 2nd to get me to 70MPH.

well i did some research and came accross http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/tyres.html that shows that with a stock 2007 wrx transmission and stock tires 215/45/r17 and a redline of 7000 here are the speeds

    1st - 3.454 40 mph
    2nd - 1.947 71 mph
    3rd - 1.366 101 mph
    4th - 0.972 142 mph
    5th - 0.738 187 mph
    reverse - 3.333 41 mph
    final drive ratio - 3.70

and so with bigger tires you can squeeze in even more

With the lower weight and the most likely choice of upping the horse power. The lower gears are going to be next to useless. I’ve driven an Ariel Atom on a few occasions and first gear is next to useless. Even on the base Atom 2 with “only” 200 HP. And when I drove the Atom 2 with 245 there was no point in even using 1st gear even from a dead stop.

Just fyi, I believe the US STi has a factory redline of 7000rpm and all other 2.5L turbo engines use 6500rpm. The 2002-2005 US WRX 2.0L turbo engines used a 7000rpm redline.

I spun my 06 WRX motor at 7250 (stock short block) with no issues. Granted, my motor made no power that high because of the stock turbo. It did help me escape a shift point or two on some higher speed autocross courses.

06 WRX is an ej255, STI is an ej257. Shortblocks are identical except for pistons (wrx has more dish because heads are different). It's believed the D25 casting heads (06WRX, 07WRX, and 09WRX definitely, not sure of others) is better than the STI head casting.

yea gonna have to look more into transmission gears. still got a lot to look into. I would like good power and reliability. been looking into the hybrid ej257/ej205 combos but i hear they are very knock prone. ej257 are drive by wire where as the ej255 is drive by cable. lol so much to look into why can't i just get my 4g63t to fit and keep awd haha
